Unit 22: Task One
Understand scripted elements for a range of media products
FILM SCRIPT: Parasite
Type of script: World Cinema
Language This script is elaborate code as it gives clear and detailed language so it's
easier for audiences to understand what's going on. For example, the
dialogue. The purpose of this script is to entertain as it’s a fictional film with
elements of comedy throughout the script in the dialogue about family life,
which therefore makes it also relatable to the audience.
Format & Layout
Conventions specific to this
type of script
The correct formats and layouts have been used and the font is the right
font as it’s the courier font. It contains formatting such as key elements
correctly in the correct areas, for example the dialogue is underneath the
character's name, which is also in caps. They are both central. Action
blocks are aligned to the left. Transitions are aligned to the right. Any vocal
direction is given in brackets underneath the character’s name.
Three-act script This script is not a three – act script as it doesn’t follow the typical rules for
one, as parasite is two movies combined into one.
Angle of article Due to the family being heavily in poverty I believe this script is targeting
the working- and lower-class families as they would enjoy this content the
most as they will be able to feel and relate to the characters more
therefore being the most likely to be entertained by this script. Age wise I
believe the targeted audience is 16 – 30s as these are the ages of the
characters and these age groups will be able to understand the depth of
this script more than others,
Style
i.e.
single-stranded
multi-stranded
linear
non linear
This script is linear as the story is in chronological order.
Type
i.e.
fiction
non fiction
This script is fiction as it isn't based on a true story and the events that
take place in this story, along with the characters, didn’t happen.
Unit 22: Task One
Understand scripted elements for a range of media products
TV SCRIPT: BBC breakfast
Type of script: news broadcasting
Language I believe the language is restricted code, as this script can't easily be
understood without the context behind it. For example, the story is going in
order of the news reports. The purpose of this script is to inform and
educate audiences as the presenters are informing us of stories happening
in our country or around the world such as the school implementing more
lessons debate which is also educating us in a way. I believe the language
matches its target audience as it’s very formal and cut to the point as the
audiences are most likely 20+ on their way to work just wanting to know
what's going on in the world before their day starts.
Format & Layout
Conventions specific to this
type of script
The layout and format are different to a film or tv script. This is because
this is a news script, which therefore makes it correct in a news broadcast
script. All presenter dialogue is aligned to the left. There is a gap between
the presenting and the audio inserts. These are signposted with an IN and
OUT in capitals along with a duration, so the presenter knows how long
between inserts.
Three-act script This isn't a three-act script as it's too short to have a beginning, middle and
end. Plus, this isn't intended to be a story like script. However, it does have
structure to it as everything is in a linear order so you could argue that this
script does have a three-act structure as even short scripts can manage to
be a three-act script.
Angle of article I believe this script is aimed at adults aged from 21 – mid 40s as they are
modern enough to watch the news instead of reading it from the papers
plus, they kept the reports quick and immediately jumped in to talking
about the weather updates as If they were keeping in mind that people are
getting ready for work and may only be watching to get weather and road
insights. However, due to its content about students having more lessons I
believe they're also trying to target secondary school students to take part
as this does involve their education therefore also attracting the working/
middle class as students fall into those categories.
Style
i.e.
single-stranded
multi-stranded
linear
non linear
The style is multi stranded as they keep cutting from one key scene to
another and sharing multiple narratives in one segment.
Type
i.e.
fiction
non fiction
This script is nonfiction as it’s a news report segment about topics that are
currently happening in our world such as the weather.
Unit 22: Task One
Understand scripted elements for a range of media products
RADIO SCRIPT: RADIO NEWS
Type of script: news
Language I believe this is an elaborate code script as they are explaining the stories
thoroughly and need their audience to understand as quickly as possible
but in a serious way. The purpose of this script is to inform and educate
audiences. There is a formal tone due to the nature of the stories.
Format & Layout
Conventions specific to this
type of script
The layout of this script is different to film and tv show scripts as there are
no action or transitions and it was difficult to tell if the dialogue was an
action part or not since the names weren’t above the bits of dialogue,
which I'm assuming is because there’s only one person reading the script
and since it’s a radio show there's no need for action as you’re only
hearing what's going on, not watching.
Three-act script I believe this is not a three-act script as its multiple stories being reported
that have no correlation with each other.
Angle of article I believe that this is aimed at the older generation or anyone that owns a
car as they're more likely to listen to the radio as they have either grown up
listening to it and use it as a source to get news as they're used to this
method – for the older generation. Or, because they have the radio on in
the car, they're listening to the radio either way. But I still believe it's
targeted at mostly the older generation as the script uses very formal and
polite language.
Style
i.e.
single-stranded
multi-stranded
linear
non linear
In a way this script is multi–stranded as its multiple different stories being
told in the same segment.
Type
i.e.
fiction
non fiction
This is nonfiction as this is a news show reporting real life scenarios and
updates such as, the police officer who was seriously injured after their car
overturned in Leeds.
Unit 22: Task One
Understand scripted elements for a range of media products
VIDEO GAME SCRIPT: BRATZ
Language I believe that this script is restricted code as it's clear and simple enough
for its intended audience to understand. The audience are children so it is
simple and easy to understand. It is informal and linked to the fashion
world to keep it conventional for the genre.
Format & Layout
Conventions specific to this
type of script
The format and layout of this script doesn’t match the script conventions
for film, TV or radio. This is because the font is different, and instead of
using words such as ‘narrator’ or ‘VO’ they use ‘dialogue.’ It appears to be
a challenge or cut scene with a voice over. The action is in italics and the
character name in bold caps.
Three-act script Because this script is too short and doesn’t give a full-length story as its
just dialogue to support and help the players this script isn't a three-act
script.
Angle of article I believe this is aimed at girls aged between 8 – 12 years old as this is the
Bratz intended audience. This is because the language used in this script
is very simple and uses slang that younger audiences will understand and
may use themselves such as ‘hit it.’ The reason I believe this is also aimed
at girls more specifically as Bratz is about a group of girls who love
fashion, which is stereotypically aimed more at women.
Style
i.e.
single-stranded
multi-stranded
linear
non linear
This script is single stranded as its one short singular narrative of dialogue
to cheer the player on, while they do the games tasks.
Type
i.e.
fiction
non fiction
This game is fiction as the events that took place in this game are all made
up.

Style i.e. single-stranded multi-stranded linear non linear In a way this script is multi–stranded as its multiple different stories being told in the same segment. Type i.e. fiction non fiction This is nonfiction as this is a news show reporting real life scenarios and updates such as, the police officer who was seriously injured after their car overturned in Leeds.

Unit 22: Task One Understand scripted elements for a range of media products VIDEO GAME SCRIPT: BRATZ Language I believe that this script is restricted code as it's clear and simple enough for its intended audience to understand. The audience are children so it is simple and easy to understand. It is informal and linked to the fashion world to keep it conventional for the genre. Format & Layout Conventions specific to this type of script The format and layout of this script doesn’t match the script conventions for film, TV or radio. This is because the font is different, and instead of using words such as ‘narrator’ or ‘VO’ they use ‘dialogue.’ It appears to be a challenge or cut scene with a voice over. The action is in italics and the character name in bold caps. Three-act script Because this script is too short and doesn’t give a full-length story as its just dialogue to support and help the players this script isn't a three-act script. Angle of article I believe this is aimed at girls aged between 8 – 12 years old as this is the Bratz intended audience. This is because the language used in this script is very simple and uses slang that younger audiences will understand and may use themselves such as ‘hit it.’ The reason I believe this is also aimed at girls more specifically as Bratz is about a group of girls who love fashion, which is stereotypically aimed more at women. Style i.e. single-stranded multi-stranded linear non linear This script is single stranded as its one short singular narrative of dialogue to cheer the player on, while they do the games tasks. Type i.e. fiction non fiction This game is fiction as the events that took place in this game are all made up.
