1. American Sniper
Style
The media was produced for filmand the institute
who owns it is Warner Bros.Pictures.This filmscript
follows a general style of a filmscriptas has lots of
background information aboutwhat is happeningin
the filmand where itis set. This is for the audience
benefit. The scriptbegins with a setting and what
Chris is doingand then switches in and out of actors
speakingand re addressingthe scene for the actors.
The scripthas been written in a way of a victim’s
point of view and has the American sideof the story
for 9-11. The actor’s lines after this areshort and
written in a way so that you can see what emotions
and feeling the actor is meant to be feeling.

American sniper was produced in 2014 and was
made to honour the war hero Chris Kylewho was
killed in America by a MarinesufferingPTSD. Partof
the filmis set in Afghanistan where he killed over
100 people as a sniper and saved countless lives.
The lastpartwas in America where he is killed after
trying to help PTSD sufferers.
Narrative Structure
American Sniper has a typical three act structure
where there is a problem which is solved but then
acts in tragedy which is slightly differentto the
average structure. In the scriptitis evidentthere is
Propp’s theory (1928) where different character
sharethe same role/function.For example, there is
2 different snipers in the filmworking againsteach
other before with a reputation for being very deadly
and not missinga shot.
Genre
The genre for this filmis action as itcentres on the war
that the US are fightingin Afghanistan and the different
conflicts they are fighting. However, this genre can change
because when they go back to America there is no conflict
and it’s more of a drama then action.This links to Altman
(1999) theory that there is no such thing as pure genre
and it will alwayschange.However, in the filmI think we
can only see the genre through codes and conventions
which is the Tom Ryall theory (1978).For example, from
the fact that the films opens with violenceand the twin
towers collapsingwe can tell the filmis goingto base
around action.
Target Audience
I think that my main target audience in this filmis aimed at
people aged 15-40.Firstly,itcan be seen that teenagers
love this as they love the adrenalinethatis created and
then they get to experience. They then continue to enjoy
this through adulthood hence my films is also aged at
older people. When they hit40 however, the thrill slows
down so my filmis aged at a younger audience. On the
NRS scale,I think that itwould be aimed more at the C1/B
rather than A as upper class peoplemay not be ableto
relate to this actors pain and injures as they do not
typically go into this industry of work.

2. Line of Duty: Episode 3 Series 2
Style
The media is TV and the institution is theBBC. The
scriptis followingthe general style of a scriptand
gives a littledetail on the situation the actors arein
then lines from the actors.This gives the audiencea
good background before they startspeaking.This is
different to a filmscriptas there is less description
on background information and more focus on quick
and snappy lines for the actors to keep the audience
interested and want to watch other episodes.This
scriptseen here follows howthe BBC normally write
their scripts and the way they wanted the audience
to infer certain things as well.

Line of duty is a BBC drama that firstaired in 2012
and become a very popular TV series from its
unique story lineand the twists and turns it created
in the filmwhich audiences love. The filmfollows
AC-12 which is an anti-corruption policeunitwho
work on big cases to help expose corrupt police
officers.These episodes involvelots of action and
tension between different characters which all add
to the overall effect of the series.
Narrative Structure
This series does not followthe theory of Todorov
(1969) as there is so many new twists and turns in
the episodes and sometimes are left with the same
problem that the episodestarted with. It also does
not link with Propp theory (1928) that there is
general charterers in every filmsuch as the villain
and hero. It doesn’t link becausethere are so many
different corruptpeople that through the episodes
people don’t suspectare the villainsand play heroes
at times and not villains.Also,this scriptis
structures likean average scriptas there is a short
induction for the scene then a conversation.
Genre
I think that this series does link with Buckinghamtheory
(1993) that the genre is always changingwhich can be
seen in this as every episode can be so different to the last
with new characters and ideas.However, its general genre
throughout is drama with action as well.I think I can tell
this through the generic codes and conventions which are
in these episodes.This is Ryall (1978) theory and we can
tell it from things such as certain representations of
characters for example.
Target Audience
I think that this series of episodes is aimed atages 15+ and
all genders.This is becauseit does have some violence’s
and graphic images however as itis a drama as well, it
draws in a lot more people hence why ithas such as large
target audienceand 9.1 million peopletune into watch
series 5 making itone of the most popular BBC series.I
would say on the NRS scaleit’s aimed atmiddle class
people (B1) and the working classthatenjoy the tension
and drama that these episodes create. A lot of the
characters in the episodes aremain stream and work long
hard hours which lots of people who are watchingcan
relate to so keep the audience interested and wanting to
watch more.

I thinkthat the targetaudience forthesesepisodes
wouldbe people agedover18 as theywill be able to
betterunderstandwhatisgoingonas the whole
storyis toldthroughaudio.Youngerpeople alsolike

this.Also, anoldermore mature audience will
understandthe differenttypesof emotionand
comedythe episodesare tryingtoconverge asitis
