1. Proposal
What you are producing
I want to produce a detailed guide in the form of a booklet giving the specific traits of dog
breeds. It will help people to decide which dog breed is best for them.
Why you are producing it (personal reasons, interest etc)
The reason I want to produce this product is because I have a passion for dogs and being a
dog owner myself I feel I have a good knowledge of the topic. This will make it easier to
write the information in a way which would appeal to people.
Any existing examples you can draw inspiration from
I can use publications like “Your Dog” magazine to help me with the information and give
me inspiration on how I may lay out my booklet. I can also use the website from “Your Dog”
magazine to gather any other information that will not feature in the publication I have at
home. I could use existing booklets like the Franklin College course guide to see how it has
been laid out, the thickness of the booklet and how it has been written.
The intended target audience (remember to use subject terminology)
I will aim my booklet at all genders and races who are aged 20 years up. It will not be aimed
at any religion. The Geo-Demographics of my target audience would be anyone in the UK.
This is because anyone who is thinking of getting a dog would use this to find what breed
would be best for them. Also, people who already own a dog(s) may want to look at this
guide to help further understand their dog. The Socio-Economic grouping of my target
audience would be C1-D because people who fit into this group are more likely to be able to
pay for the dog’s upkeep. However, the E grouping are not as likely to have a dog because of
students are not likely to have a dog due to lack of funds and not awning their home. The
people who are with the A and B group will be more likely not to read my guide to the
informal writing style I will use. My target audience does not have a Psychographics because
anyone who wants a dog will get one regardless of which category they would fit into.
How you will interpolate the intended audience (language register, fonts, colour, images,
and design)
The way I will write the information that will feature within the booklet will be casual yet
informative. This is because it will appeal to my Socio-Economic groups I am aiming my
booklet at. I feel to keep with the informative, casual theme I want to run through the
booklet, I will use normal font for the information itself because I need this to be clear and
easy to read for my target audience. As for the titles, I will need to use a clear font which is
different to the information’s font and catches the eye of the target audience. The colours I
will use within my booklet would be bright shades of colours which may have connotations
of fun and animals. Colours like green, blue, red and yellow. The images I will use will not be
photographs of dogs. Instead I want my leaflet to have a hand drawn feeling as well. Due to
this I will use Photoshop to create my own image of each dog breed myself. The design of
my booklet needs to follow the theme I have set out. One of the ways I could achieve this by
2. having the image of the breed one side and the information the other. This will help me to
have a clean, crisp layout which looks professional yet look interesting to my target
audience.
