2. Question 4
My media product targets a niche audience of people. It
targets an audience similar to Kerrang! Magazine. The social
group I will be representing are male adults (16-30). The
interests for my audience will be just rock music, and music
in general. My magazine sticks solely to music to appeal to
this audience. I also stick to solely rock music to appeal to
this niche audience.
3. Question 4 (Continued) - Why did I choose this audience?
I chose this audience as it is a niche audience as they are
loyal and will buy merchandise. This audience will stick by
my magazine, and instead of trying to appeal to everyone, I
can solely try to appeal to my target audience, so I don’t
have to keep everyone happy, and I can just keep my target
audience happy. This will in turn mean they will be loyal to
my magazine and buy it monthly. This also means that they
will be attracted to the adverts and want to purchase from
them, as they are directed at this social group.
4. Question 4 (Continued)
From my questionnaire I have
gathered information about
those interested in my
magazine. Those
predominantly interested in it
would be adult males (16-30)
as 60% of my audience are
males, and a good portion of
that are aged between 16 and
30. The reason I chose to do
a rock magazine is because I
like it myself and i have
noticed a very niche audience
that are easy to appeal to.
Since I am interested in it
myself I know what I would
like to see, so it is easy to
decided what to put in it.
5. Question 5 - My Title
60% of my audience wanted to use the
title “3Lectrock!”, this is a way
that I appealed to my target audience
and attract them, as I am attracting
a niche audience. This is so they can
stay loyal as having a say in
something like this makes them
“Prosumers” as they get a say in what
happens.
6. Question 5 (Continued) - Images
The images I used would attract my target audience as I used the
same colour scheme in a majority of my pictures, that being black,
white, red and yellow. I also used high key lighting to contrast our
dark clothing to make it look more effective. In other images we
were positioned against a beat up wall, or a wall with graffiti on
it, reinforcing rock representations, showing we don’t follow rules
and do our own thing. My magazine contains ‘infotainment’ as readers
would expect. I used numerous cartoon based images, such as plasters
and wanted posters to give it a dash of humour to stand out from
other magazines, which would appeal to my target audience and make
them more loyal to the magazine.
7. Question 5 (Continued) - Escapism
I used a lot of exclamation marks. This is to make it seem
more exciting and they would gain immersion. They would be
able to escape into this exciting world. I also used
capitalization a lot, on things such as titles, this is to
make it more exciting and imposing on them, this is to make
it more exciting and aid the immersion that my magazine would
have.
8. Question 5 (Continued) - Prosumers
On the front of my magazine I have put images of twitter, facebook and
spotify. I also put a message saying “Chat us up!” with a facebook link. This
is so they can become prosumers, they can come talk to us on facebook and get
involved on the magazine. They can also tweet to us and tweet pictures of
concerts to spread our audience reach and tweet to us what they want in the
magazine, while also listening to music we feature in our magazine, on
spotify. This will aid them in becoming “Prosumers”. I also used a
questionnaire to decide what to put on my magazine, this is so they can get
involved, it is an opportunity for interaction and makes them think they have
a say in what comes out in the magazine. They want to become ‘Active Readers’,
this enables this while also giving them an opportunity to become ‘Prosumers’.
