as an instructional manual or autobiography.
2. Horrible Histories
This is a Horrible Histories leaflet for an event. This a factual product as it is promoting a show.
On the cover there is the logo which is central, underneath it is sub heading that says “Two new
shows live on stage”. Below that is some of the cartoons that are seen in the show and in the
books. They use these characters because the auidence will be familular.
The audience of this event will be children aged 8-12, both male and female who are in
primary school and secondary school. The geo demographic auidence is
Edinburgh,Scotland. The socio econimic grouping of this auidence is E because their
children. The psychagraphics of this groups would be psychagraphics would be Aspires
because they’re young and they have dreams.
The background colour of this poster is purple this conates royalty, creativity and pride. The
reason why the used this is because the british history is very rich and the show has been
praised as being one of the smartest comedy in television by The Gaurdian. There is four
cartoons on the poster. A greek soilder, a roman soilder and a viking. They used these
characters because they’re the most popular and the most recognised out of them and they’ll
interpollate the auidence. They use the colour red because it’s seen as the most brightest out of
all the primary colours. This has a polysemtic meaning; it could signifiy passion and love
because the auidence like comedy as well as the content of the show. The other meaning could
conatate blood which is anchored in by the use arkaic weapons on the poster. On the other
side of the leaflet they still carry the purple background. The typography at the back is white
because this makes it easy for the auidence to read and it acompannies the colour scheme.
Some of the words are in bold and in upper case letters because this makes it easier to highlight
information and other stuff.
Some of the typography is central this is a technical code for importance because it focuses the
readers eye’s into the important information. Some of the text is sorted in collums so it’s eaiser
to read. Above the collums are the titles of the characters. On the right hand side you have the “
GROOVEY GREEKS” logo in capitals. They have a golden brown colour which signifies
richness and dirt . This is to interpollate the auidence because they would recognise the logo.
“INCREDIBLE INVADERS” is placed on the left side of the leaflet. The colour of it is blue which
signifies the sea because most of the invaders sailed to conquere countries.
Underneath they have a a line of cartoon characters that are seen on the cover of the book and
in television all wearing their customs that re respective time peroid. There is a Saxon King,
Greek soilder, viking and gladiotor. This promotional art that will interpollate the auidence.
3. The information on the leaflet is accurate because it is an event and there is a dates are “ WED
4- SAT 7 MAY 2016.” This is important as people would have paid a large sum of money so
they can attend the event. The leaflet does present the information in small collumns so people
can read quickly.
The langauge they use is very formal with pinch of humour. “ We all want to meet people from
history. The trouble is everyone is dead!” they use humour as a way to make it memorable and
to give the readers a taste of what to expect. Mode of the address they use to adress the
auidence is the second pronoun “you”. This is a way of addressing the auidence and connecting
with the target demographic. They use words such as “thrill, excitement” and common idioms
such as “hold on tight!” to create an sementic field of fun. Which keeps the auidence engaged
4. A Great day out
This is an example of leaflet that’s promoting the Edinburgh Zoo. It has images of animals
such as the koala bear, panda bear, a family, snow bear and a dinosaur. This is to interpollate
the auidence and to show them what they will be expecting when they visit the zoo.
The target market is familiees and people who generally intrested in wild life. Their geo
demographics would be families that live in Edinburgh and the surrounding areas. The
demographic are both males and females of all ages. Their socio ecomic class is C2 this is seen
by the prices on the leaflet. There psychographics is heartlanders.
The leaftlet communicates fun as seen by the bright colours. They use colours like orange,
yellow, green, light blue and white. Green conotes nature, this colour is used in all different
media formats such as magazines and even in films. The colour yellow represents happiness
and one of the brightest colours on the leaflet and it is seen in the logo which is placed at the
front of the leaflet. Light blue represents understanding because the zoo provides information on
the animals that they own. Blue is assiocaited with the sky and the sea. Orange conated tropical
as most of the animals they own in the zoo are from hot climates such as the koola bear seen in
the front of the page. The reason why they picked these colours is because they complement
each other very well and they interpollate the auidence.
The content of the leaflet is very clear, the information is organised. Some of the collums placed
are left alligned. Whilst some of them are centred this is to focus the curious reader’s attention
to the important information. The website is at the bottom left coner on one of the sections of the
leaflet in white bold letters. This is so that it can be found easily due to it’s locations. Some of
the words are highlighted in bold such as magic this is to enforce what they will be expecting at
the zoo, the other way they highlight certin keypoints is by using captail lettters. They also have
a website and a phone number so the auidence can contact them or they can resarch for more
information. The images in leaflet do support the content of the page.
The langauge register is very informal creating a friendly tone this is seen in the phrase “ If you
like animals, fancy a sneak peak behind scenes….” using the words fancy creates a friendleir
tone instead of using the word “intrested. The readers will understand the language is at uses
colliqual and they use it on a daily basis. There is many uses of imperative phrases such as “
Get closer than ever before”, “ Explore our walkthroughs” and “Discover our sister site”.These
are used to encourage them to visit the zoo and to do some research on their website. The first
sentectes are highlighted in white and in capital so that it interpollates the reader.
5. They use statistics to make the place exciting. These are factual as the owners would have kept
a record of the numver of animals in their zoo. “See over 1,000 amazing animals.” They also
highligh some of the animals in yellow because the auidence will recognize them.
