2. #6. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? My media product uses most forms and conventions of a real magazine. For example my magazine features a female model on the front cover just the way that Q and Kerrang! do as well. The cover lines of Q and Kerrang! are placed either around the main photograph or over it and my magazine follows it. Their isn't a set rule as to how the masthead should be placed, whether over the main picture or behind it that’s why I chose to follow Kerrang! with this one as I preferred the effect it gave. The fonts used in magazines can either be quite fancy like the one used in Kerrangs masthead, or quite plain and simple like the only ones used in Q’s front cover. For my magazine I decided to follow the conventions and use both fancy and plain.
3. #6. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? The only two ways in which my magazine challenges the conventions of real media products are the colours used and the style of photography (front cover). For my front cover I have decided to use a black and white photo which isn't very popular in real magazines. Apart from the photograph being black and white I have also decided to instead of having the model/artist looking straight into the camera with the effect of “breaking the frame” I chose to have my models face covered with hair with just her body visible to the readers. The reason for this was to differentiate from the real magazines and do something unique that creates a mysterious atmosphere around the picture as we cant see the girl’s face ad we are curious to what she looks like. I have also used slightly different colours in my magazine to the ones that the real magazines like to use. I have gone for more bright colours that are eye catching and that draw a lot of attention to them such as a combination of orange, blue and red whereas Q for example likes to use dull basic colours such as black, white and red and Kerrangs usually goes for a combination of only two colours. Here – both looking straight into the camera. Also Q – basic dull colours. Kerrang! – Mainly pink and black.
