1. Film Poster 1 - Analysis
Film posters create meaning for the audience because they usually establish what genre the film is by use of images or text so the
audience know what to expect before consuming the film as a product. In the poster below I have
annotated to show my understanding of how the elements of the film poster constructs that meaning.Film Title
This title ‘Chief’ alongside the central image
creates meaning for the audience because
it gives an hint of the film content - the
audience might think it is about a native
American chief - which it is. This also gives
a hint to the genre, being action or drama.
This will attract certain audience members
to the film so it works as a marketing tool.
Central Image
The central image backs up the title and
gives more meaning aboutgenre,plot and
film narrative. The central character might
be assumed by the audience to be the
central character and the colour scheme
of the images being grey and gloomy can
also create extra meaning.
The central image is also laid out to draw
in the audiences attention
Film credits and details
This gives the audience meaning
about who produced and directed the
film for example. This can attract some
audience members too.
Sundance Film Accreditation
The Sundance Film Festival is
famous and attracts the mass
audience because it well
respected as a high award and
gives meaning to the audience that
the film is good and was enjoyed
by a audience.
Film awards
This gives the audience
meaning about film awards the
film has already won and
attracts the audience to watch
the film even more.
Tagline
This encourages the audience
even more to view the film
because it tells the audience it is
a ‘Must See’ film
