The reason for this was to expand, attract and engage an audience.
The combination of all my ancillary products should hopefully
engage the audience I chose when doing research and create a
wider/mainstream appeal.
 My A2 media studies required
me to make a short 5min film to
go together with an ancillary task
which was to make film poster
and magazine review film. I took
a lot from the soap and drama
genre, whilst researching key
codes and conventions.
 After researching and annotating a real film poster the
purpose of a poster became clear to me and the purpose is to
advertise the film through the title not a moving image. A
poster would usually include the following , the actors’
names, a particular design/colour and a tagline. I used these
essential codes to make then make my poster sellable,
attractive and connected with the other products.The next
slide is my analysis of the Harry Potter 7 poster.
Focal point -The main
character will take centre
place in the poster this it so
that he/she is easily
recognisable, it could also
be that the actor is so
associated with a particular
role the audience are
drawn to the poster more,
such as Daniel Radcliffe as
Harry Potter.
Tag line – it can be a phase from the film of a brief description
of the films plot .
Title – Its not always relevant to have the films full title, like this one
they have narrowed it down to “HP7” the reason they can get away
with this is because the text in particular has become so associated
with the films it almost acts as a logo/iconography.
The Background will often
contain an image of the
main setting for the film
takes places in this case its
Hogwarts school.
Titles - Not all poster
have titles , the titles
often display
information about the
film.This poster has had
many different version
some without title's.
Because of it popularity
the information
sometimes can become
repetitive when it’s a
franchise and isn't
necessary in play a part
in the film success.
Colour-This will often
depend on the films narrative
or genre, this colour scheme
is actually very dark &
haunting which suggests this
idea of it being cold, lifeless
etc.
 On the next page you will be able to see what I've taken from
my research on other posters and what I've applied to my
own poster.
The main image is of the
actor in my film. It almost
acts as a campaign for the
poster to attract audience
because it’s the same image
that has been used in the
review, this goes back to this
idea of something being
associated with a particular
film this is something I found
was constant in franchises
when conducting my
research.
The title is big and bold to attract audience’s attention and to also
be seen in the trailer and review. The title informs the audience
about the film; by doing this it will help gain the spectators
interests in the film.
The film tagline makes audience
gain a greater understanding in
what the films actually about.
The reason id didn’t add a tagline
was due to this idea of mystery; I
didn’t what the audience to
know what the film was about.
The tagline will often give some
sort of clue to the synopsis and
this was something I decided
against.
vulnerable situation for the character “Kayleigh” so I made sure the building in the background was
easily identifiable as a school on fire. The fact she’s alone also signifies she one of few characters in
the film highlighting her significance as a main character in the film.
The background shows where
the film is set although I didn’t
want to give any clues away I
didn’t want to create a more

Title – Its not always relevant to have the films full title, like this one they have narrowed it down to “HP7” the reason they can get away with this is because the text in particular has become so associated with the films it almost acts as a logo/iconography. The Background will often contain an image of the main setting for the film takes places in this case its Hogwarts school. Titles - Not all poster have titles , the titles often display information about the film.This poster has had many different version some without title's. Because of it popularity the information sometimes can become repetitive when it’s a franchise and isn't necessary in play a part in the film success. Colour-This will often depend on the films narrative or genre, this colour scheme is actually very dark & haunting which suggests this idea of it being cold, lifeless etc.

It almost acts as a campaign for the poster to attract audience because it’s the same image that has been used in the review, this goes back to this idea of something being associated with a particular film this is something I found was constant in franchises when conducting my research. The title is big and bold to attract audience’s attention and to also be seen in the trailer and review. The title informs the audience about the film; by doing this it will help gain the spectators interests in the film. The film tagline makes audience gain a greater understanding in what the films actually about. The reason id didn’t add a tagline was due to this idea of mystery; I didn’t what the audience to know what the film was about. The tagline will often give some sort of clue to the synopsis and this was something I decided against. vulnerable situation for the character “Kayleigh” so I made sure the building in the background was easily identifiable as a school on fire. The fact she’s alone also signifies she one of few characters in the film highlighting her significance as a main character in the film.
