1. (Q2)
How effective is the
combination of your main
product and ancillary texts?
Bamba, Jason, Celyn, Edevi
2. The role of the ancillary texts are to support the main product and in this case
they are:
- A Poster
- A Radio Advert
The combination of these texts with the final short film are very effective as a
means of promotion. The poster and radio advert secure a larger audience
through advertising the themes that the short film entails. The poster and radio
advert act as forms of advertisement by presenting an audience with
questions which can only be answered by viewing the short film.
For example, the speech included in the radio ad leaves the viewer
questioning why certain things have been said, provoking their interest in the
film’s storyline. Lines like “Don’t touch me! I do not have a ring!” may leave
people wondering what happens in the film for someone to say such a thing in
an aggressive tone.
3. Promotional Poster
The promotional poster carries
elements from within the film.
For example, the final poster to
the left presents the film’s main
theme of presenting two sides
of one world. The duplicated
central character who has
been edited to face away
from his own double reflects
the idea of two different
perspectives and opposing
versions of events.
VISUAL PROMOTION
5. The radio advertisement contains features which relate to
the short film. For example, the final radio ad has dialogue
integrated from the film to give listeners a sense of mystery
and a peek into what the characters in the film are like. The
voiceover also adds to this feeling of mystery while. From the
radio ad the genre of our short film (drama) can be
understood, showing how this means of promotion
effectively supports the film.

6. Radio Advertisement
Voiceover:
“Life isn’t always what it seems”
Character:
“We’ve got a little surprise for you”
Voiceover:
“Don’t become stuck in your own fantasy”
Voiceover:
“I don’t know you!”
Character:
“I don’t know you!”
7. Short Film
As the main product, the short film is a basis for the ancillary
tasks because their roles are to, essentially, divert potential
audiences to this final product. By containing a number of
features, like the related typography of the poster, the
ancillary texts give viewers an insight in order to intrigue and
engage. The more attractive elements in the radio advert
and promotional poster, the stronger they support the main
product through advertisement.
8. What makes the combination of the main product
and the ancillary texts so effective?
The radio ad and poster are supportive
through their appeal. Their roles are to make
our short film attractive to an audience, by
revealing just the right level of selected
information. Together, they cater to the
curiosity of people because they give our
audience a visual form of information as well
as an audible form of info. The small decisions
that go into creating the ancillary texts can
all link back to the main product (short film).
