 4 consecutive days a week for 4
weeks.

 Daily carryover assignments(30

“Real-World” BIG Tasks – Patient Driven!
Build complexity across 4 weeks of treatment
towards long-term goal.
BIG Walking
 BIG arm swings, BIG steps
 This may feel awkward at first, if it
doesn’t , it is probably not BIG
enough!
Normalise amplitude, stride length,
posture, arm swing overtime.
Carryover Exercises
Daily assignments to use
BIG movements
in real life situations outside of the
treatment room.
Difficulty of the assignment progresses
across the 4 weeks of treatment.
Carryover exercises are specific and you
are made accountable for doing them
LSVT BIG Treatment Goal
People with Parkinson disease will
use their bigger movements
“automatically” in everyday
living – and there will be long-
term carryover of increased
amplitude use!

LSVT BIG program

  • 2. Treatment Protocol  4 consecutive days a week for 4 weeks.  16 sessions in 1 month  60 minutes sessions  Daily carryover assignments(30 days/entire month)
  • 3. Maximal Daily Exercises  Floor to ceiling – 8 reps.  Side to side – 8 reps each side.  Forward step – 8 reps each side.  Sideways step – 8 reps each side.  Backward step – 8 reps each side.  Forward Rock and Reach – 10 each side.  Sideways Rock and Reach – 10 each side.
  • 11. Functional Component Tasks 5 EVERYDAY TASKS (Patient Driven) – 5 reps each. For e.g.  Rolling  Floor to stand  Getting in or out of bed  Sit to stand  Sit and reach  Walk and reach  Walk and turn  Stand and turn
  • 12. Hierarchy Tasks  In/Out of car  Walk and talk  Writing  Tennis  Golf  Gardening  Laundry  Shopping  Going to restaurant  Cleaning the house “Real-World” BIG Tasks – Patient Driven! Build complexity across 4 weeks of treatment towards long-term goal.
  • 13. BIG Walking  BIG arm swings, BIG steps  This may feel awkward at first, if it doesn’t , it is probably not BIG enough! Normalise amplitude, stride length, posture, arm swing overtime.
  • 14. Carryover Exercises Daily assignments to use BIG movements in real life situations outside of the treatment room. Difficulty of the assignment progresses across the 4 weeks of treatment. Carryover exercises are specific and you are made accountable for doing them
  • 15. LSVT BIG Treatment Goal People with Parkinson disease will use their bigger movements “automatically” in everyday living – and there will be long- term carryover of increased amplitude use!
