-Interested in Community engagement in context to post disaster
-Earthquake Survivors
-Engaged in pre and post earthquake 2015,Nepal
-Goal to improve peoples live by participating in community work
5. Introduction
•Generally in academic research projects young people are considered as topic for
research, participant or translator.
•Encouraging young groups and creating a space for youths in social science
research as c0-inquirer can bring new alternative epistemology and democratic
research processes (Gaventa and Cornwall,2006).
•In Nepal’s case efforts are limited to passive participation rather than pedagogical
praxis.
•In course of time, PAR has been popular qualitative inquiry methodology within
social science due to possibility of incorporating people’s participation, action and
critical self –reflection/ inquiry in the research process.
6. Research Gap
Often young people and co-researcher’s experience are inconsiderate
and haven't been studied. So this paper fulfills the research gap by
including co-resercher’s experience in context to understand the
applicability of PAR in context of Nepalese Youth.
7. Research Aim
To understand the applicability and challenges of PAR in context of Nepal, through
the Nepali Youth’s experience during the study of youth’s community participation
on post disaster context
8. Research Site and Sample
Out of 14 mostly affected districts ……………..
•One Principal Investigator and Seven Co-researcher (4 male and 3 female)
between the age 23-35
9. Methodology and Methods
Qualitative Methodology
•Participatory Action Research (PAR)
Methods:
1. Collaborative inquiry: Planning, action and Self reflection
2. Theme and Pattern analysis
10. Research methodology
Key methods
1. Cooperative Inquiry (CI)
• 8 CI workshop with the co-researchers in various research sites
and field work mainly at Lalitpur, Sindhupalchok and Kirtipur
• Journal reflection
• Personal Journal reflection (Transcribe reflection)
• Transcribe reflection
13. Key Findings
1.Being a coresearcher: no academic hierarchy, Iam respected (I
am .. Me being a co resercher… research student … hierarchy,
mistrust.. Knowledge trust… breaking the phenomena of …we
design our own methods… field trip date in collaboration with
principle resaercher
2.Becoming a critically reflective inquirer
PAR it will inhanche thinking ability- example 2 interview
Feedback share- respect humble– critical thinker --- kasari tha
vayooo ki u need to take 2 and 3rd times more.
Implication of PAR in Nepalese context
1.Empowering
2.Action Reserach
