2. •In terms of the narrative this music
video is straight forward but effective. It
simply follows the artist around for a
weekend. The first half shows her
travelling around her home city of
London, clearly unhappy.
•The lyrics of the video are about
wanting to be home with family and
friends. The tone and the colours of the
mise en scene are dull and bleak, which
is a reflection of the lyrical content.
•The shot types throughout the video are
mainly range from close-ups to medium
close-ups of the artist, this is to capture
the emotion in her performance and to
follow conventions, is she was happy, it
wouldn't fit the mise en scene or
message of the song. Even though there
are some strong long shots, they aren’t
needed as the location isn’t as key as the
star.
3. In the second half of the music video the
tone completely shifts in a positive way, the
artist has gone back home and the colours
become more vibrant. The cinematography
remains simple, but this works well with
what the star and the song if trying to say.
4. •In the last third of the music
video, there’s an effective use
of imagery, particularly in the
mise en scene. There’s a
sequence of shots where Lucy
is in a striking blue dress and
is happy, the viewer can see
this and hear this as the song
picks up once more and the
end draws near.
•The positive attitude of the
song is brought to a halt as
Lucy goes back to London
leaving her family, she can be
seen wearing a black sweater
and is again unhappy.
•Despite how simple the
camerawork and at time times
the cinematography are, it
works well with the mise en
scene and the performance of
star. It is a song which is of large
personal value to Lucy, who
recorded her album away from
London and at her family
home.
