2. Band Name: Luna
Song: Grammy
Genre: Pop
Character
Our main singer – Luna – will be between the ages of 17-
19, blonde hair and petite. The music video will show
flashbacks of Luna with her ex-boyfriend when they were
happy but now she is feeling vulnerable and grows stronger
throughout the video.
3. Luna (the main female singer) has just broke up with her boyfriend
due to him cheating and throughout the music video flashbacks will
be shown from a time when her and her ex boyfriend were happy.
Shots of performance (Studio) shown also and everyday life
situations – showing how she misses him but is getting over him. A
transition from day to night throughout the music videoand also
Luna’s character evolves through the music video.
This is a genre characteristic, included in Goodwin’s theory. As the
genre of our music video is pop, a typical theme that runs
throughout the genre is break ups, especially from the females
point of view and her memories from the relationship.
4. In the music video, Luna will wear a different costume in every
different situation. We have decided that every costume will be
a different colour to represent the emotions she is feeling in
terms of her relationship as she is presented with a new
situation. Through her costume we also want to promote the
artist ‘Luna’ by wearing fashionable clothing. – A point taken
from Goodwin’s analysis to promote/sell the artist.
5. We have decided to have one of the costumes in our
music video in the colour red. This is due to the
connotations and representations the colour red has:
it is the colour of energy, passion and action, also the
colour of sexuality, passion and love which can be
associated with Luna’s previous relationship but the
colour red also connotes danger and anger – the
emotions she is now feeling.
We believe that Luna should be wearing the colour red when she is in
performance based shots when she sings to the camera to express her anger
towards the situation. We also want Luna to wear fashionable and appealing
clothing to appeal to our target audience of the age 15-30 women.
6. Blue is a colour that represents loyalty, strength
and trust. The loyalty will be portrayed through
the blue clothing that will be worn. The loyalty
will be seen through the female loving the male
figure but then seeing the male break up with
her. This will then show the audience he hasn’t
been loyal to her but she has been to him.
Strength and trust will be shown by the female
figure not worrying about the break up and
keeping her head high. This will immediately
show to the audience that she is a strong minded
character who wont get hurt easily. Finally trust
will be a major part within this video as the
whole relationship is based on trust and with the
trust being broken the blue will symbolise the
trust barrier being broken.
7. The colour white symbolizes
purity, innocence and wholeness.
White is also the colour of new
beginnings, this costume will be worn
near the end of the music video to
show evolution of Luna’s character
throughout the music video, as she
once wore red to represent anger
towards her boyfriend whereas her
transition between anger -> new
beginning, she will wear white to
represent this change of character.
Luna will wear a white costume when she is performing and exploring the
fields/woods location to represent freedom in nature.
8. We have taken inspiration from Lana del Ray’s – ‘Summertime Sadness’ and ‘National
Anthem’. We found her music videos to execute similar codes and conventions such as the
narrative and visuals to the beat to fit our intentions for our music video. Additionally, the
girl group ‘The Grimes’ – ‘Genesis’ we found to be inspiring for our shot types and
locations as it has the edginess we wanted to convey whilst still being mainstream and
appeal to our target audience of women aged 15-30.

9. In our music video we have decided to convey the theme of relationships, the
good times and the bad times it entails. We came to this theme as we analysed
the lyrics and the lyrics: ‘what do you want from me’ – the word ‘you’ implies
the singer is referring to a lover/previous relationship. Also, ‘because I’ve
given you everything’ – suggests she has given her all in the relationship, but
seems to be disappointed and upset about what has happened with her and
her ex-boyfriend’s relationship. Therefore, we will be portraying her emotions
and also flashbacks of her relationship.
10. 1) Studio setting – In this location we will base the performance part of the music
video here. This is due to a plain background and direct acting/singing to the
camera by Luna, this will be a ‘spectacle’ as the singer will be singing directly to
the camera and thus, making a connection with the audience and sufficiently
conveying her emotions.
2) Field/Woods – Here Luna will also be performing but there will also be a
significant concentration on nature and her surroundings. This is a genre
characteristic- element of nature. Also, this symbolizes that her relationship and
break up is a natural thing that happens in everyone's life.
3) Everyday life situations – This will be part of the flashbacks between Luna and
her ex-boyfriend, showing the happy times they had but also the bad – leading to
their eventual break up. As these will be flashbacks the colour of the shot will be
different and a different style of editing in order to ensure the audience will be able
to tell that this happened previously.
11. LIGHTING
Throughout the music video we will have different stages of lighting
depending on the location.
1) Studio setting – the lighting here will be relatively bright as it will
consist of a white background and it will also create a contrast and
juxtaposition with the other locations.
2) Field/Woods – the lighting will consist of a sunset going into
evening, we want to use as much natural lighting as possible to
emphasize the importance of nature in the shots.
3) Everyday life situations with ex-boyfriend – these shots will consist of
day and night shots each including happy and sad times.
Throughout the music video we will place shots from each of the locations in a
mixed sequence to create a sense of progression and a combination between
narrative and performance.
