1. Matilda Rehearsal.
Our target for this rehearsal was to fin-
ish our Matilda dance piece so that for
the next rehearsal, we could focus on
clearing up the weaker parts to ensure
it all looks clean and precise. We want-
ed to make sure that everybody's ideas
were incorporated and that we re-
mained fitting the theme and context of
the piece.
The smart target that I focused on for the rehearsal was co-ordination. This is because I knew I
had little/no understanding of this skill, so this rehearsal was a good opportunity to work on this
to ensure that for the rest of the rehearsals and the performance I would have better or good co-
ordination.
We came to the mutual decision that we would carry on this specific dance because after looking
at three different dances to have a try of to see if we would, we all preferred Revolting Children. I
felt as though this was the best decision for us as a group because it meant we could all have an
even playing field and have the same character as a child instead of different characters such as
Annie or Elphaba and Glinda where everyone else does not have a named character, while
some people do. With revolting children everyone has the same motive.
In this rehearsal, we started out by running through the piece first to remind ourselves of what we
had already got, and to understand if it all intertwines with the music. In the previous rehearsal,
we had not ran the decisions through with the music so we were unsure if it would fit. We quickly
learned that we did not have enough time left of the song to keep each part of the dance in so
we ran through it slowly to see if we could take anything out or make any movements shorter as
the last part of the dance where we run back to the tables and duck down was something we
knew we wanted to keep in. We managed to shorten the last partner work sequence to being
one count of eight instead of two because it then meant that the dancers nearer the front had
enough time to get to the back of the stage. We then ran this through to make sure it looked
okay, it did.
To enable ourselves to correct any mistakes and give constructive criticism to one another, we
filed what we had achieved so that we could all watch it back and come to an agreement on what
could look better. We realised that there part where Alfie, Ellie, Cerys, Evie and I were moving
the tables, we did not look in character enough as well as it being too short. To resolve this, we
added in a lift to make our characters seem more childlike and look as if we were messing about
whilst still being able to move the props. This added to our characterisation which was good. We
managed to clean other parts of the dance such as when we come back as an ensemble from
splitting into groups of five and worked on our facial expressions in our partner work and defining
the timing and which leg we were starting on to make it look cleaner. This helped with my co-
ordination because I was working on the ability to match the movements in my arms to my head
and feet without getting mixed up or confused.
Something that I excelled in within this rehearsal was definitely constructive criticism. I was very
good at not letting any of it affect me personally as I knew the aim of it was the make the dance
better. As well as this I was also able to give my input which helped towards changing intricate
parts of the dance to give it the cleaner finish.
2. This pictures shows one moment where I am achiev-
ing this lessons target of co-ordination. You can see
that my feet are together as well as one arm out and
one arm in as I was able to do alternate arms to legs
successfully which meant I achieved my target for
the lesson.
In this picture, I am showing one of them improvements
that we made which was adding in a lift. This meant we
had different levels as well as being able to show the dif-
ferent personalities that we similar to children. We had to
work together to ensure we did not drop Cerys sand
make sure everyone was able to hold the right amount of
weight, and what way we needed to walk which meant
we were working well together as a group.
I am in pink and
black.
