1. Evaluation of City Life Dance
Performance
This was one of the first things we done together as a team, so it was nice to work together with
people that I didn’t know very well. What we done was a dance performance, which showed city life.
The song we danced to was ‘I wanna rock right now’ by Black Eyed Peas. We started off with all of us
standing in a ‘V’. The reason to why we decided to do that was because we could all be seen, and we
also had enough space to move around and dance. I think this idea worked really well as we did have
enough space to dance, and none of us ended up bumping into each other.
What we done first was we started to move as robots. This was a great way to start as the music
went really well with the robot dancing. Also, we all were in groups, so one group started and then
the rest followed. In my opinion this had a great impact, as there was a lot going on, but it still
looked very put together and professional.
Then this was followed by us all getting into two different lines and facing each other. We all then
started to walk to the other end. I think this did look a little messy, as some people weren’t paying
much attention, so they weren’t aware of when it was their turn to walk, so that’s one thing I would
have improved, if we were to do this dance again.
We then had to go in the middle and do our own dance. Apart from me everyone else had a pair to
dance with, as there were odd numbers. This was one of the reasons to why it looked like I lacked
self-confidence, because everyone had someone dancing with them, and I was alone. So, this would
be another thing that I would have liked to improve, and this could have been done by me practicing
what to do a little more, and have much more confidence, and enjoy the dance.
As for all the other dances that were done in the middle, the majority of them were fantastic, as
some were very well choreographed, and others made us all laugh. However, some people didn’t
put much effort into what they were doing, so the atmosphere of the dancing was put done a little
by that. Whilst the people were dancing in the middle, to give it a bit more taste of competitors
dancing, we decided for the people who were standing in lines, to cheer along the people dancing in
the centre, as it gives it more of a realistic feel.
To finish this dance off we all came together, and done a little bit of free-style dancing. In my opinion
this was a great way to finish the dance off, as everyone looked like they were enjoying the dance,
and I did look a lot more comfortable as well as looking more confident. For the final part, everyone
falls down to the floor, and then right at the end, there’s only one student standing, and after she
realises everyone had ‘died’ she decides to ‘die’ too. This was purely done to finish the dance routine
off with a bit of humour.
Overall, I really enjoyed this task, as it was really fun to rehearse and then finally perform. This also
gave us all more confidence, especially myself, as I would never have danced in front of people on
my own, but now I know it’s not much of a big deal. So, if I was to sum up this task in one word, it
would have to be ‘amazing’.
