The goal of the accreditation system is to ensure that education provided by schools meets acceptable levels of quality. In this presentation. meaning of accreditation, Benefits of accreditation, and criteria of accreditation are discussed.
2. What do meant by
Accreditation ??
Is it related to quality?
3. Yes!!! Is it related to quality.
Lets see ..
what is accreditation?
4. 1. Accreditation, in education, is the process by which an association
or agency evaluates an educational institution or programme of study
and formally recognizes it as having met and satisfied, or exceeded,
certain predetermined requirements and criteria or standards of
educational quality.
2. Accreditation is an official recognition that a school is credible–that is,
that the school maintains educational standards well enough that
other accredited schools will recognize the professed level of
education claimed by its students and faculty.
Accreditation : Meaning and Concept
5. 3. Accreditation is a big fancy word that simply means a quality check. An
accredited school has gone through a rigorous check by an authority on
education to make sure the school meets their standards and is qualified
to teach students the programs they are offering.
4. The goal of the accreditation system is to ensure that education
provided by schools meets acceptable levels of quality. The
accreditation system was developed to maintain a level playing field of
quality education, so that students could switch schools as seamlessly as
possible, and so that educational and industrial organizations would
recognize the level of education indicated on a transcript as an indication
of real value.

6. 5. Accreditation is a process that many schools, colleges and universities
wanting government support, as well as recognition by industry and the
public, regularly undergo. Accredited schools are then held to strict
standards which must be maintained with each accreditation renewal.

7. The process of accreditation involves a brief school inspection to assess
the level of conformity to set accreditation standards .
1. Interested schools fill out a formal request for accreditation from one
of the accreditation bodies and pay an application fee. The
application must be completed about 3 months before a school visit
is scheduled. Visits are scheduled only during the second semester
of operation for new schools.
What is the accreditation process like?
8. 2. After approval, the accreditation organization schedules a preliminary one-day
or two-day visit by a small committee. The committee prepares a report back to
the accreditation body, including recommendations about how the school can
improve.
3. If the committee’s report is favorable, the school will receive a notification of
“initial accreditation” or “candidacy” depending on how well the school meets the
accreditation standards.

9. The number of schools in India is increasing at fast pace as every year
a large number of children seek admission in different classes.
Although, seeing this unending demand many entrepreneurs are
opening new schools but the quality of these schools & the education
standards varies a lot with each other. Hence, it is required that schools
follow the guidelines & norms laid down by education boards while
planning their infrastructure, curriculum, examination format etc.
STEPS TO GET SCHOOL ACCREDITATION IN INDIA
10. To serve the purpose of quality & equivalent standards of education in
all the schools, our government has framed agencies like Quality
Council of India (QCI) and National Accreditation Board of Education &
Training (NABET). These agencies provide accreditation to such
schools, which are qualified enough to promote holistic development of
the children, after assessing their educational goals and approach
taken to accomplish them. Therefore, if we want to establish our
school and provide quality education to all, accreditation is a necessary
requirement.

11. Accreditation to schools in India is provided by National Accreditation Board of
Education & Training (NABET) which is a constituent board of Quality Council of
India. NABET has set the framework and standards for Quality School
Governance which is applicable to all schools, regardless of their size, type,
board affiliation and nature of educational service provided.
School Accreditation in India
12. These standards have been developed for schools so that they provide:
● Educational services that is beneficial for all parties involved.
● Quality consciousness
● Effectiveness rating of an educational management system.
● NABET has its parameters against which it allots scores to the school and these
scores decide further approval of the accreditation. Parameters like:
● Qualified Staff
● Facilities provided by the school
● Maintenance and Records
● Infrastructure
● Examination & Evaluation etc
These parameters help in establishing a system of self development, learning and
improved performance. It encourages all schools to pursue continual excellence in
whatever they do.

13. 1. A school conducts self-assessment and submits it to NABET along with the application form
and fees
2. School prepares and hosts for readiness visit by NABET
3. A letter of commitment is submitted by the school to comply with the findings arising out of
readiness visit along with the annual accreditation fees.
4. School hosts the assessment visit by NABET team
5. A finding report is submitted by NABET team to the school
6. 6. School works on the action plan and acts on the findings provided
7. 7. Accreditation team of NABET reviews the actions on the findings. If the actions are
implemented properly, the school is given NABET accreditation for a period of four years with
yearly progress review. If the actions are not implemented properly, the school may opt for
NABET assessment again after proper preparation.
8. 8. After accreditation, the school engages in continual improvement and hosts a periodic
progress review visit by NABET.
9. At the end of four years, the school submits application form again for continuance of
accreditation.
Steps for School Accreditation
14. NABET Accreditation Mark
Once a school is accredited, it can use NABET accreditation mark in any of the media of communications such
as school letter head, newsletters, promotional materials, annual reports, brochures, business cards, advertisements
etc.
In case of suspension or expiry or withdrawal of its accreditation, the school should discontinue the use of
NABET accreditation mark.
Conclusion
The Quality School Governance accreditation standard, if understood and implemented in its true spirit will
help schools to move from being people driven to process driven organizations. It will help schools to self-assess and
improve themselves.
Some schools may take it as a threat to their privacy but they need to understand that the standard does not
dictates terms and conditions but is just an attempt to achieve excellence through an education quality management
system.

Benefits / Importance of Accreditation
16. Founded in 1983 by a group of California school owners.
The steps to get accreditation for your school are given below
The first step is to apply for accreditation by submitting application form. The form can be
filled either online or by directly visiting the head office of accreditation agency. A certain
amount has to be deposited as fees along with the application form at the time its
submission. Further, you need to submit a detailed report of your school and its essential
documents of affiliation, recognition etc. with it.
Next step is to do necessary preparations for the inspection day, when a qualified team of
accreditation agency visits your school. The team has an assessment sheet with different
parameters written on it for providing scores of evaluation. The criterion for assessment is
based on parameters like curriculum, teaching-learning environment, examinations,
extra-curricular activities, teaching aids etc.
NIPSA : National Independent Private Schools Association.
17. After examining your school & its performance, the team provides a cumulative score
to the school. It also suggests further improvements, if needed and give a certain time
period to incorporate the changes in your school.
Once the stipulated time period is over for integrating the changes, the team again
visits the school and check whether the necessary steps has been taken for the
suggested changes or not. After reviewing for the same, if the team finds a
satisfactory improvement in the school, it agrees to provide accreditation to the
school.

18. The accreditation provided to the school is valid for a certain time period i.e. 4 or 5
years and once this time period is finished, you need to re-apply for the accreditation.
The renewal procedure includes all the above steps & completion of all the formalities
again.
The accreditation & affiliation are two important key factors to make your school
known for its upraised standards of education. Therefore, ensure accreditation and
affiliation for your school by following the important guidelines and requirements
outlined by educational authorities, from the beginning of your school.

19. A school shall be evaluated on the basis of the degree to which it is accomplishing the
purposes and functions outlined in its own statement of objectives, and on the
appropriateness of those purposes and functions for an institution of its type. In
addition, to qualify for accreditation, a school must give evidence of adequately
meeting the following criteria which are established as a general guideline to
determine the effectiveness of the school’s educational program and services.
Accreditation Criteria
20. • General Data: Current statistical information
• Philosophy and Goals: A statement of philosophy by the governing body of the school. Goals
and objectives consistent with that philosophy shall be systematically developed and reviewed by
the administration and staff, and are to be shared often with the students and the parent
community. There shall be a continual evaluation of progress toward these goals and objectives.
• Organization: A clearly defined and demonstrably workable organizational structure whereby
these goals and objectives are carried out. This structure should specify the functions of the
administration, staff and students, the administrative relationship among these groups, and the
limits of authority and responsibility.
The school shall have:
21. • Curriculum: A curricular program with written course descriptions and objectives that
provide all students with suitable courses of instruction consistent with the school’s
philosophy and goals, and the students’ needs, abilities, and interests. There shall be
adequate instructional resources to implement the curricular program. The curriculum
should be the object of continual evaluation and development by the faculty, students, and
administration.
• Instruction and Learning: An instructional program that addresses the needs of all
students, emphasizes active learning, and provides teachers and students with ample
material.
• Pupil Services: Pupil services that identify the needs, interests, aptitudes, and goals of all
its students with adequate educational, personal, social, and career guidance.
continue…
22. • Pupil Activities: Appropriate student activity offerings that supplement the formal instruction of the
school. These should be responsive to the students’ needs and interests and shall draw upon special
skills and enthusiasm among students and faculty.
School Staff: A well-qualified staff that effectively fulfills its responsibilities.
• Parent Community: A supportive parent community that is encouraged to share its ideas and
recommendations and, when invited to, actively participate in prescribed areas of the school program.
• School Plant: A school plant and physical facility that enables staff to implement effectively the school
program.
• Finance: Continuing financial support adequate to provide staff, physical facilities, instructional
resources, and other support services necessary to operate effective educational programs. Budgetary
planning should involve those who are responsible for implementing the school’s programs and services.
continue…
23. School Improvement Plan: As part of the self-study the school will prepare a school
improvement plan (SIP). The school improvement committee shall represent the school
community and may employ a model that is appropriate for the school and its mission. The
plan should analyze data from the self-study and other sources to determine the present
state of the school and to develop objectives and action plans to improve student learning.
• As a SIP is an ongoing document it is expected that previous plans will have been
reported upon and have been updated to reflect successes and opportunities for continued
growth. Keep in mind that any school can improve; the SIP only provides the school with a
blueprint for improvement and continued success.

24. Dormitories and Dormitory Life (Boarding Schools): As life in a boarding school is
integral to the overall development of the student, the aspects of that life must be evaluated
as part of the entire student experience. The school must exhibit that care has been taken
to plan for and implement policies that provide for the affective development of the child in
his or her relationships with adults and other students.
• Early Childhood Education: In addition to the criteria described in Sections 1-12 above,
the following criteria, particular to early childhood programs, will be observed. Schools
should keep in mind that in many communities law often dictates the requirements for early
childhood education. In addition to the requirements below, schools must meet all local,
state and national requirements that may apply to their individual circumstances. Schools
must also meet any state requirements for early childhood programs if the school is
participating in a state-supported program. (See the appendix for Standards of the National
Council for Private School Accreditation for Early Childhood that must be adhered to in
Florida and many others states.)

25. Special Needs Schools: Special Needs schools are those schools whose mission, objective, student
population and goals require substantially different curriculum and instructional strategies. These may
include schools for exceptional education of all kinds. Schools must be governed by the NIPSA
accreditation criteria as outlined in Sections 1-13 of the NIPSA Accreditation Manual, Directions for the
School. In addition, schools must adhere to all local, state and national requirements that may apply to
their operation.
• NIPSA Therapeutic Certification is an evaluative process for schools that describe themselves as
therapeutic in nature and that have a component for addressing student needs in addition to that which
is seen as traditionally academic. These criteria are designed to set high standards of performance in
regards to personnel, safety, and quality of care. The process includes a comprehensive self-evaluative
report by the school, followed by a site visit by a committee of peers in order to experience the school
firsthand and to evaluate the accuracy of the report. To be recognized for NIPSA Therapeutic
Certification a school must also meet, or have previously met, the criteria of NIPSA Academic
Accreditation as set forth in the Evaluative Criteria, NIPSA Manual for the Self-Study and must meet the
criteria for Special Needs Schools described in Section 14.0 of that document.
