2. Firstly, I opened a new
Photoshop document and
thought about what image I was
going to use on my magazine
promotional advertisement. I
took this screenshot from my
music video as I liked the effect
used to create the colours
around her body. I then used
the website above to create a
collage using the same heart
shape I have used on my front
cover for continuity.
3. After this, I imported the image
and duplicated it so I had 3
copies. This was so that I could
feature 2 hearts on the cover, I
then added a pink border which I
created by turning up the
saturation and hue on the
original border of one of my
images but it worked-. I then
added the same text ‘flawless’ as
shown on my front cover and
used a black rectangular shape
layered behind to make these
colours contrast. I did the same
for the artists name at the top.
4. This is the same image after I
added the crucial release date
along with the website and
Twitter name I made up. I
thought this image looked
effective because of the colours
used and so much was going on
here! However, I thought the
back picture was too simplistic
and over used for a promotional
advert which should be
recognisable therefore asking
for audience feedback I decided
to use an image of the artist’s
face.
5. I was then back to basics, keeping the borders I like but changing the
image. I added a photo I took of my artist wearing a leotard however this
photo was taken on an iPhone which impacted the quality when making
the image larger so after removing the background of the photo I was not
happy with what the image looked like. I chose to use the photo of Sophie
standing against a graffiti wall outside as it looks like the type of
conventions used in hip hop and rap music. Furthermore, I allowed the
layers of text I previously used to be seen and they looked great. For
continuity across my products though I changed the artists name to the
same signature style font I used on my front cover and duplicated this
image twice, changing the colours and size to make this look more
interesting.
6. I used the same tutorial I
found on YouTube in the
process of making my front
cover in order to airbrush the
skin. I have listed the
instructions below in 4 easy
steps which can be followed.
• Duplicate the layer.
(Ctrl-J or Cmd-J)
• Filter, Blur,
Surface Blur
• Radius =20px
• Threshold=
100px
• Add a layer mask
• Fill it with black
using the paint
bucket tool
• Paint the areas you
want to airbrush with a
white soft paintbrush.
• Size = 60px
• Opacity = 10%
BEFORE AFTER
7. This is what the photo looks like after I
have airbrushed the skin.
8. I changed the lip colour
using the tutorial I used
in the process of
making my front cover.
This was simple to use
and I simply created a
new layer; painted over
the lips in my selected
colour and changed the
blending mode to a
‘soft light’ so that it
appeared lighter in
colour. I duplicated this
layer so that the colour
was more intense and
more of a purple colour.
9. I used the website
graffiticreator.net in order
to make my own graffiti to
put onto the wall so that it
looked more full of colour.
I used two different font
styles on the site to
produce the words ‘kassie’
and ‘flawless’ both are
contrasting images to
show verisimilitude of a
typical graffiti wall.
However, I have stuck to
the colour scheme of
pinks, purples and blues.
10. This graffiti looked too distinct therefore I set the
blending mode to ‘overlay’ so that it would look
more realistic against the wall. I used the erase
tool to remove the graffiti from Sophie’s face so
that it appeared to be behind her on the wall.
11.
12. I duplicated the ‘kassie’ graffiti layer and as I moved it down it passed
over my text which I liked the look of therefore I left this over the text
and removed the rest of the image where necessary.
The image to the left
shows how I have made
the graffiti an overlay
which I found too much
against the wall and so I
placed my ‘flawless’
graffiti over the original
flawless text. Again, I liked
this effect and chose to
keep this.
