  • 14. Introduction . Protection Relays are used to protect equipment from being damaged by undesired electric phenomenon. Specific protection functions exists for generators transformers, transmission line, capacitors, etc..   • 30. - Set the 87R restrained (harmonic) level 3 modes of operation (for even harmonic level 2nd and 4th ) - Restrained Increase dual slope characteristics in proportion of even harmonic detected - TRADITIONAL (for even harmonic level 2nd and 4th ) Blocking enabled if harmonic level is greater than set value (example block above 15%) - SAFE (for modern transformers) verify if fundamental is in phase with 2nd harmonic (to validate this is not a fault).
