2. CARMINATIVE
Definition :
These are soothing Medicaments act by reveling pain in the stomach
and intestine and Expel gas from GI tract by Peristalsis.

3. Synonym : Bishop’s weed, Trachyspermum Copticum
B.S : Dried ripe fruit of the plant Trachyspermum Ammi
Family : Umbelliferae
Geographical Distribution : Native to Egypt , cultivated in
Iraq , Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India.
Cultivation and collection : Cultivated as rabbi crop in oct/nov
and harvesting done in feb/mar (yields 300-350Kg
fruits/hectare .
C.C : 2-5 % volatile oil , thymol, pcymene, terpinene, pinene,
dipentenes ,21% fat, 17% proteins , 25% carbohydrates.

Antispasmodic, stimulant,
carminative. Also used in sore
throat and bronchitis.
Ajowan oli is used as antiseptic,
antifungal and insectiside. Also
used in deodorant in mouth
washes, toothpaste and Favouring
agent in disinfectant soaps.

B.S : It is Dried ripeg fruit of Elettaria Cardamomum .

Geographical Distribution : Native to SL , Malaysia,
Myanmar . Cultivated in india ( musore, kurg District)
C.C : 2-8% Volatile Cineole, Borneol, Terpinene, fixed oil ,
starch and proteins.
Uses : • Stimulant ,flavouring agent and Carminatives.
• It is used in spice.Antioxidant and diuretic
properties may Lower Blood Pressure.

B.s : fennel consist of Dried ripe fruit of the plant known as
foeniculum vulgare, miller
Family : Umbelliferae
Geographical Distribution : It is indigenous to
mediterranean Countries and largely cultivated in
rumsnia, Russia, Germany, France, india and Japan.
In India it is cultivated in Gujarat, Maharashtra,
Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.
Organolaptic Characters :
Colour - Green to yellowish-brown.
8. Odour – sweet aromati
Taste – strongly aromatic and
mucilaginous.
Size – 5 to 10×2 to 4 mm.
Shape – straight or slightly curved.
C.C : It consist of 3 to 7% of volatile oil. 20%
protein and fixed oil, ketone, fenchone,
phenolic, ether, anethole, phellandrene,
limonene, methyl chavicol, anisic aldehyde etc.
Uses : It is used as carminative, aromatic,
stimulant and also as expectorant,
pharmaceutically It is used as a flavouring
agent.

B.S : It is oleo-gum resin obtained by making incision from
rhizomes and root of ferula foetida.

Geographical Distribution : Native to central asia-persia,
Afghanistan, India.
Collection : plant is collected after 4-5 years, Dried and
packed in suitable container
C.C : resin 40-50% , gum 20-25%, volatile oil 4-20%,
