INFORMATION, EDUCATION AND
COMMUNICATION
INTRODUCTION
I.E.C is a method that empower
people to make decisions, change
behaviour in a correct direction.
I.E.C in health programme aims to
increase awareness, change attitude
in a specific direction.
DEFINITION
• INFORMATION is define as one or more statement or fact
that are received by a human which have some form of worth
to him.
• EDUCATION is the process by which behavioural changes
takes place in an individual as a result of experience which he
has undergone.
• COMMUNICATION is the process of attempting to change
the behaviour of others. Helps people to learn to look at things
in a new way by sharing ideas and information.
HEALTH EDUCATION
“It is the process by which individuals and groups of people
learn to behave in a manner conducive to the promotion,
maintenance or restoration of health”.

with promoting healthy behaviour”

Information, education and communication

  • 2. INTRODUCTION I.E.C is a method that empower people to make decisions, change behaviour in a correct direction. I.E.C in health programme aims to increase awareness, change attitude in a specific direction.
  • 3. DEFINITION • INFORMATION is define as one or more statement or fact that are received by a human which have some form of worth to him. • EDUCATION is the process by which behavioural changes takes place in an individual as a result of experience which he has undergone. • COMMUNICATION is the process of attempting to change the behaviour of others. Helps people to learn to look at things in a new way by sharing ideas and information.
  • 4. HEALTH EDUCATION “It is the process by which individuals and groups of people learn to behave in a manner conducive to the promotion, maintenance or restoration of health”. -John M Last “Health education is the part of health care that is concerned with promoting healthy behaviour” -W.H.O “Health education is the translation of what is known about health, into desirable individual and community behaviour pattern by means of an educational process.”
