The Pitfalls of Keyword Stuffing in SEO Copywriting
Evaluation Question 2
1. How effective is the combination
of your main product and the 2
ancillary texts?
Francesca Leftley
2. How do the 3 parts of my promo
package link together
As part of our A2 media coursework, our aim whilst creating our main product
was to create two ancillary tasks. The ancillary tasks consisted of; a digipak
and an advert from our chosen song (All Cried Out- Blonde).
When combining the video and the other two products together, it would
demonstrate a marketing campaign for our song.
Throughout, this I had to make sure that all were connected to each other, I
had to make sure that the ancillary tasks and the videos weren't just linked
through term but also through purpose, design, target audience and the
closeness of the texts realistic media products.
3. Branding/Logo
A brand is the identity of a specific product, service or business. A brand can
take many forms, including a name, sign, symbol, colour combination or
slogan.
A legally protected brand name is called a trademark. The word brand has
continued to evolve to encompass identity- it affects the personality of a
product, company or service.
A logo makes your band look more professional to the consumer. It
immediately identifies your brand.
-Al Ries (the original branding expert):
'Logos should be designed to fit the eyes. Both eyes. For maximum visual
impact, a logotype should have the same shape as a windshield of an
automobile, roughly two and one-fourth units wide by one unit high'.
4. Our Logo
The logo that Megg and I have created holds the personality from both characters
both being girls. We thought about different images to use; our first idea was to
use a butterfly including a 'B' due to the duo being called 'Blonde'. But due to that
not working out, we looked through other ideas, we then came to the conclusion
of a pair of lips. This indicated that we are both girls. We chose a pair of lips due
to them being a key feature on a womans/girls face. One of the colours that we
chose was purple; due to this being Megg's colour, she tends to wear purple alt,
Megg is a vibrant person and is very bold just like the colour purple she has
chosen. I had chosen pink due to it being a girly colour, I would like to think I'm
energetic and bubbly. The two colour are effective, and they represent our
personalities. In our logo it includes the textual content 'BB', this is due to Megg
and I both being naturally blonde, there is double blonde= double trouble.
However, 'BB' links to the actual artists of the song due to us wanting to make sure
that their style is still involved but we wanted it to be ours. The logo we have
created is continuous throughout our digipak and advert
5. Logo
In the wider market a logo can be printed on other media products. Anything
from packaging, marketing materials, websites and signs can be embezzled
with the Blonde logo, providing a fan base that the audience can feel
connected with. The goal of using a logo in marketing is to put your logo in
places customers are likely to see it, and reinforce that recognition pattern
with multiple viewings. I would have liked to try and place the Blonde logo in
the music video, but Megg and I couldn’t find a suitable place to place it
without it looking tacky.
6. Why is branding important?
Branding is a way of clearly highlighting what makes your product or service
different to, and more attractive than 'your competitors'.
There are four key elements in a successful branding project;
The big idea- The big idea is the starting point for any branding project. It is a
summary of your business or products 'personality', and what makes it different.
Vision- An understanding of where your business is going, or where you want it to
go, so you can plan your journey. Your vision may be large scale- such as switching
the emphasis of your business from one core area to another – or simple, such as
offering an existing product in a completely new way.
Values- Clarifies what your business stands for. Your values are an important part
of how people see your business- however, it can be tricky to communicate values.
Personality- when you start communicating your brand to consumer, you will also
be expressing the personality of your company through the tone, language and
design you use.
7. Key Conventions
The genre of music is deep house music.
We want to make sure the image, font, colour scheme are the same
throughout our digipak, advert and video.
The advert will tell audience what single are featured in our album and that
the album is in stores now or is coming soon. There will also be a logo of the
record label (which I have already discussed).
The artist wont be sexualised in the digipak, unlike usual pop CD adverts and
digipaks.
The artists are looking straight at the camera which connotes a more personal
feel to the album and may make the audience feel that they know the duo.
The we decided to leave it as a plain background but to have a splatter effect
on the cover, to show a messy, confusing side of Megg and I.
8. Two Ancillary Tasks
Digipak
When completing this task, I had to make sure
that I was aware of what a digipak was. This was
to give me an idea of how they are designed,
created and as a result I wanted to make sure
that all features that need to be included in the
digipak were. After completing our photo-shoot,
Megg and I selected a few images that we
thought were appropriate for our digipak,
editing them to the style and colours we thought
would look good. We wanted to make sure that
our personalities and the theme were to be
reflected in our digipak. We continued the
theme and colour scheme, on the advert/cd and
logo as well. But we tried making sure that it
weren't over whelming. We made sure we had
the artists name and the logo. Therefore our
personalities promoted every piece.
Advert
When completing this task, I wanted to make sure that I
looked into previous adverts, what they included, why
they were important, and how they were made to be
their own. When our digipak was completed, we liked the
image that had selected therefore we decided to use this
on our advert, as the image represented both of us. We
made sure that the tour dates and the name of the duo
stood out, therefore the audience were to know that we
were on tour. With the titles, we used the same font we
did with our digipak and in our video (Master Of Break),
keeping the font continuous throughout the tasks. We
also went through venues, current tour dates to get a
rough idea of where the duo would perform. By
completing the tour dates and making sure that
everything on our advert was correct we knew that we
would have a colourful, fun advert. We kept the ghost
like effect on our advert for Megg and I, gaining another
continuous step for us.
9. Our Digipak
The front of our digipak is a picture of the duo (Megg and I), on our digipak
cover there a paint splats this is to relate back to Megg and I messing around
with each other creating memories, the paint indicates we're messy but still
works.
10. Our choices
With our Digipak we had to make sure that we kept certain things common
throughout our; adverts, Digipaks, video, CD and logo.
Bold titles
Bright colours
Clear images
By creating our Digipak and advert we wanted to make sure that we made
them to be our own. Due to our video focusing on us both, we wanted to
make sure that we did the same with our Digipak and advert. We wanted to
make sure that we delivered our loud, fun, adventurous personalities. By
creating bold titles, and making sure that the audience are able to tell that
its our duo by the images, titles and colours. With the colour splash that we
used, its creates authenticity. Making our audience intrigued.
11. Digipak
On this section of our digipak we
decided to write about the duo. We
used the font ‘Master Of Break’.
This is the font we used throughout
our project, including this on our
CD, logo, advert and included it in
our video.
These half faced images are
from our original picture,
just cropped, we wanted to
show us as a duo, but also
individually.
A list of the duos songs
included in this album, using
the font ‘Master Of Break’.
Our Logo, using the font
‘Master Of Break’ this logo is
used continuously throughout
our project.
The image that we used on both of our
ancillary tasks. Blurred out to show effect,
and to fit with the theme of our project.
Included barcode at the
back, this is what every
digipak includes.
The duo’s name, blurred out, to go
with everything else on the digipak,
but also in the font ‘Master Of
Break’.
12. CD Our logo was included on our CD,
as we didn’t want the CD to be
too much including the image of
Megg and I, and we thought that
the logo represented us, so it
promotes us as a duo.
Including the duo’s
name, however we have
used a different colour
to make it stand out, we
used the blur effect
keeping it constant
throughout due to it
having this effect on the
Digipak and Advert. We
also used the same font,
‘Master Of Break’.
The same with, using the
same font ‘Master Of
Break’, however it being
blurred out.
13. Advert
We have added an , blurring this out, using the
same font as we have used throughout all of our
pieces.
These are a copy of the venue and
the dat. Using the pink for the venue
and the black for the dates, using
the same font as we have throughout
our project.
We made sure that our logo was included in
our advert, as it was with our other ancillary
task.
We also included our duo name,
as this was a key feature in our
advert. Using the same colour as
we did for our digipak and using
the same font.
The image
we used on
our digipak.
A repetition of our duo
name, and that we
used this to make our
advert look more
effective and colourful.
14. Other Digipaks
As you can see Digipaks and adverts are usually based around the artists,
including images of themselves. This provides a visual capture of the artist, in
a way that the audience can relate to their track.
For example, Pinks album is full of colour, representing her album as fun,
interesting and loud. Whereas, Justin Biebers album is in Black and White, I
think the use of colours also indicates the sex of the artist which makes it
effective. It helps the audience indicate what the album means.
15. Digipak
By completing this research I believe that I found many key forms and
conventions that the pop genre use within their digipak.
The front and inner sleeves are covered with a side of both artists. With the
splatter and some text 'lyric of one of their songs' behind them. Due to there
being a close up of a side of the artists face, it focuses more on the artist
than the background.
Simple, clear designs and has such items like a barcode, logo and a clear
label.
16. The themes throughout my ancillary
tasks
Throughout my ancillary tasks I wanted to make sure that the colour scheme
were kept throughout. To ensure this was the case when designing our
product in photoshop, we used the eyedropper tool to select the colour from
our advert, then onto our digipak. I was able to match the colours by using
their CMYK (or HTML) code. The advantage of using this specific method is
that you get the exact shade of colour across all texts, after all there are
many different shades of purple and pink.
The main colours we used were pink, purple, black and white.
We then did the same when using the font. On both pieces of print task I used
'master of break' we wanted a sophisticated image. I used this font for the
logo due to it being bold so it would stand out. The majority of the sizing is
similar however due to the size of the advert compared to the digipak I had to
resize accordingly so that the information would be easy to read at a quick
glance.
17. How we wanted to represent our
characters and how we made it happen
We wanted our artists to be known for their fashion, their friendship and their
fun side. Throughout the video there is a running theme of changing outfits,
proving a sense of audience recognition and consistency. Also, a change of
locations, ferry meadows, holiday, home. It makes our target audience want
to emulate our artists as they are shown to be adventurous, fun, silly. With
the digipak and the advert we wanted the artists to look the same we didn’t
want to make such an effort with artists that the audience aren't familiar
with.
18. Audience
We wanted to make sure that we targeted the audience in the right way. We
wanted to target the audience in a different way, we did this by targeting the
audience through the theme. Megg and I used bright/modern colours and
visual effects (colour splash), target the audience as it looks like its from the
21st century, due to loud colours and authentic effects are used more and
more everyday, throughout magazines, TV etc.
The use of young, adventurous, fun characters, we directly aimed our video
and promotional contexts to them. This allowed us to see them that we are
on their level and to connect to them.
19. Throughout our music video, to keep the genre 'Deep House Music' we wanted
to make sure that the lighting wa near enough the same throughout. Getting
various light/day shots, and various dark/night shots. We wanted all of our
products to have a professional feel and therefore we chose to photograph
the artists in a studio, using a white drop background that we could edit on in
'Photoshop'. This provided professional, high quality lighting which I used to
my advantage.
Keeping to the genre
20. Key Themes
Throughout my coursework, there have been many key visual themes. We
wanted to show the artists as fun, silly, adventurous individuals, not blatantly
sexualised like other artists. To do this we made sure that we didn’t use too
many fancy edits, locations, props or costumes. We kept the video and
ancillary products simple as to not detract anything from the duo and their
music. We used natural effects on our footage, to make our duo look more
realistic and providing a connection with the target audience. This was also
symbolized throughout the video, showing their friendship and many
memories together.
21. Conclusion
Overall I believe throughout my coursework I have shown consistency.
Although at the time of completing my ancillary task we hadn't though to far
ahead into how they would match our music video, and how we were going to
link them all together. If I were to complete this coursework again, I would
have conducted more research into how print productions relate to music
videos and used his to further benefit my coursework. Overall, I am extremely
happy with my overall product, and how the three pieces fit together.
