2. MAIN PRODUCT
The main product for this project is my music video which belongs to
the pop genre. We used the song ‘All Cried Out’ by Blonde for the
music in the piece we created.
The story board for my music video is about two best friends who go
out into the world and have adventures together helping each other
over come relationship break downs or any other troubles they may
have. We wanted to make something different to existing music videos
because most pop songs with relationships themes are based around
the premise of a male/female dynamic rather than just platonic
friendships which we wanted to portray in this video.
3. TWO ANCILLARY TASKS
Digipak
I needed to do research into existing Digipak’s to
give me an idea on how they are designed and the
layout, as a results I was able to make sure I included
all the necessary features in ours. I also looked into
downloading a software that would allow me to
create the colour splash effect. Additionally having a
photo-shoot we were able to create our centre
image, ensuring we selected an image that captured
our personalities and reflected our storyboard. We
continued the theme on the CD, as well but kept the
design minimal so that it was not overwhelming. We
kept a plain background depicting the artists name,
song title and part of the logo so that our
personalities are still promoted on every piece.
Advert
First of all I looked into a music video advert and
examined all the features it contained. When our
digipak was complete we used the same centre
image to create our advert keeping this image as the
main focus. But, to guarantee that the title stood out
to ensure that the audience knew who was on tour,
we made the titles larger in the same font (Master of
Break- helping to keep the font fluent throughout).
We also needed to research venues and provide the
customers with dates which we made stand out so
that the customers see the dates clearly. But yet
keeping the ghost like effect which was continual
throughout the promotional packages.
4. EXISTING DIGIPAK'S AND ADVERTS
All DigiPak's and adverts mostly have an image of the
artist to show to the audience who the CD is by and
who is going on tour. This also provides a visual that
captures the artist in a way that relates to their tracks.
For example; Drake’s songs are of the rap genre so
his image of blurry reflects his style of music being
blurry yet having meaning. The use of colour also
indicates the sex of the artist which makes it effective
because this helps to clearly indicate the style of
music. For example; dark colours relate to rock and
rap, whereas bright colours portray pop and county.
5. WHY PROMOTIONAL PACKAGES ARE
IMPORTANT.
Promotional packages are important because this allows the audience to
interact with the artist due to them being attracted to the promotional
display. It is important to think about the audience whilst creating these
promotional packages because this is what will entice the audience into
purchasing the product. If the visuals are not suited to them this will
produce a different image that may not gain their full attention. They also
produce a physical object for the audience to have which will make them
interact with the band more, because by purchasing the CD they are
helping to them create more songs for them to listen to. So they are
helping the band out by helping pay for recording sessions for the band to
make more music. So if the package is unappealing the customers will not
buy the product meaning music is unable to be produced.
6. CREATIVE CHOICES
These creative choices came form looking at other existing DigiPak's and adverts and
writing down certain points that all of them have in common.
Centre image of themselves.
Bold titles
Loud colours.
We wanted to challenge this and make it our own with the main focus of both
promotional packages being the central image of us, showing that we are louder than
words. This represents our loud personalities. We also wanted to still have bold titles
but make them different to others by dissolving parts of the text to make it blend in
with the colour splash. With the colour splash this created an authentic feel to our
promotional packages so that the audience would be intrigued with the visual effects
produced.
7. HOW THE AUDIENCES ARE
TARGETED
The audience is targeted through the way in which the theme is carried
out all the way through the promotional contexts. The use of modern
colours and visual effects are targeted at my target audience due to
them being from the 21st century where loud colours are used and
authentic effects such as the colour splash and the magazine cover look
is used more. The use of young characters were employed to directly
show the audience who we aim our music video and promotional
contexts at. This also allows them to see that we are on there level.
Helping to relate to them more.
8. LOGOS AND BRANDING
A logo provides the artist with a professional side that is shown to the
consumers. It is a way in which consumers identify the band and will create
an image for them and also can refer to this. Logos should be eye catching
due to this being the main image of the item its promoting.
Branding delivers a message/genre/ideology and subculture to the
consumer and confirms the identity of the artist. A legally protected brand
name is known as a ‘trademark’.
Idea- The starting point of any branding. A way in which your product is
different than others, that stands out the most. To brand a product you first
need to look into the audience and the marketplace in which it operates.
9. LOGO
The logo holds the personality of both characters. Due to the characters both
being girls we decided to use lips because this indicates girls more in a way due
to the lip stick colours they wear and this being one of the main features of a
woman's face. We chose to make both of lips different colours portraying our
two personalities. Purple was used to represent my character because I wear a
lot of the brighter colours and actions are bolder because I am quite a loud
person just like this colour. Fran's Colour is pink because she is more of a girly
girl who is bubbly and energetic, and loves the colour pink. This was effective
because we are able to link this in with out video because it represents our
personalities. The textual content is BB because we are both naturally blonde
and this represents that their is double blonde, double trouble. This also links in
with the actual artist of the song because the wanted to still bring in their style
but make it ours. This logo is our version of our record company that we have
created. This is continual throughout our digipak and advert.
10. LINKS BETWEEN THE
3 TEXTS
All three texts are linked throughout due to the theme being continual
such as the centre image being carried out throughout the advert and the
digipak. This helps to keep the focus on the audience and the two
characters. The logo is also carried on throughout the branding to ensure
that the record company is recognisable, it also shows the consumers who
we are signed to. The music video is linked to the promotional packages
through the way in which the paint represents the madness of mine and
Fran’s life’s but we stick together and still come out on top. Which in a
way makes the music video effective because it should not work but it
does. The photo of us back to back shows that we are close and will stick
together. We also used the same font throughout the three texts to
continue the theme.
