The language used within this

conversational air to it, this is

through the abbreviations of
language also, “they’ve” is a

more appropriate to the target

teenagers and young adults.

The representations surrounding this image and the
connotations created by a variety of aspects within this image.
One of these aspects is the stance with which they are all
stood in, creates a air of mystery, confidence. We immediately
derive from the image that the men pictured are a band, but
additionally that they are some form of rock/pop band due to
their dress code, and the use of dark black and grey clothing
which conforms to the clothing stereotype of this music genre.
Again the representations surrounding this
image is that he is a classical, or singer
songwriter, this is connoted through the

end, and classy.
The magazine logo creates its own representation within
itself, as when you see a ‘Q’ we, as the audience

with popular big names within the music industry.

There several conforms to the pop/rock
conventions, a key one pictured to the

stereotype to this music genre, through
it’s connotations of ‘being cool’ and the
creation of mystery, and confidence.
This use of a background, the outdoors,
creates a blank canvas, with which the
photographer can craft into what he
wants the audience to interpret from the
image, which in this case the image
could be interpreted as that they are on
top of the world, physically and within
the music industry?
The representations

6. Colours – House style…
The house style of this magazine is the colour red, this is repeated
throughout the contents page, accented through small details as
seen from these screen grabs the page numbers, and sub
headings. Additionally this use of the colour red has derived from
the magazine companies logo the white ‘Q’ within a red box this
is something which is repeated throughout the magazine.
7. Cover Story…
Within this contents page there are no defined
cover stories, with specific sub headings
labeled ‘cover story’ as seen on other contents
pages. This means that there are several cover
stories which as seen from this snapshot are
listed within a separate box to distinguish
them…
8. Links To The Front Cover…
The front cover links between the two pages are very easily
linked through the continuity of the images, which are
picturing the same band members as seen on the front cover,
with the same colour scheme of black, white and grey.
10. Font Style and Size…
The main font style is san serif, which is
used to define key aspects of the
contents page, such as the musicians
name. However the description or
explanation the the font is changed to
serif style, this helps the target audience
to find what they want quickly instead of
having to skim through series of text.
The size for the main content
information I would say is about size 12,
whereas the subheading I would say is a
size 18, whereas the heading I would say
is a size 30 to identify the page easily
and quickly.
11. A banner has been used to create
definition of the the title of the

provides additional information,
such as the issue number, and the

12. Stuart Hall’s Representation theory…
This applies to this contents page in
particular the images depicted due to
the representations connoted in
them. The main image of a band Oasis
which has a rock/pop genre this is
further connoted through the choice
of clothing and their posture within
the image.
13. How my research has informed my creativity
and planning?
Through this research I have been inspired when I
create my own contents page, to list the page
information, as it makes it easier to read, also that I
should type the page number in a different colour to
make it easier to identify.
