2. Process: Front Cover
I began with making the
background of the cover blue,
which I took from Eleanor’s shirt,
using the eyedropper tool, to link
everything together.
I then placed my photograph, and
decided to edit it slightly by
increasing the brightness and
contrast, and also adding a blur
filter around Eleanor.
I then added my
magazine title, and the
black band at the
bottom. This was easy
as during the
experimental planning
stage, I decided on the
fonts and colors I would
use. I added the band
by using the rectangle
tool and sizing it up.
Then using the text tool, I
added extra text to the
front, keeping with the
white and black theme,
and coloring text where it
fits best. I had to change
some things around as I
went on, but I ended up
putting them in good
spaces.
Finally, to finish off I
added a barcode, and
the price and issue
number down at the
bottom.
3. Process: Advert
First of all, I selected the eyes
in the picture, and using the
masking tool with the colour
overlay, I made them more
vibrant and green. To make
the colours warmer, I also
upped the contrast and the
warmth in the adjustments
tab.
Then, I cut out the
picture of the fox,
and like the main
picture, I upped the
contrast and warmth
so it would match
with the red of the
main picture.
Because some of the cutting
out I did didn’t blend as well
as I liked into the back, I
added some leaves to match
the autumnal theme. I also
upped the contrast and hue
of these to make the orange
and purples more
pronounced.
Finally, I added an
image of the perfume
bottle, which I edited
by using the bevel
tool and the outer
glow tool in the “fx”
tab, and added the
name and slogan in
the centre.
4. Process: Page 1/3
To start, I added all the
pictures I wanted to use, and
edited them accordingly. I used
the eclipse tool to get the
circle effect, and I used the
filter gallery to create the
plastic effect on the clothes
hanger picture. I placed them
in the areas I wanted,
experimenting with size and
layout till I decided on this
one.
To add some extra
colour, I added different
shapes and made them
different colours, making
sure they complimented
the tones already there
in the images and
background. To make
them less aggressive, I
made them less
transparent, depending
on the colour, usually
between 50-75%.
I then added the text, which
are quotes from my article,
and highlighted the words to
make them more pronounced
so the reader will see these
as important and powerful
words.
Finally I added the
page number and
“TEMPO”
underneath the
border.
5. Process: Double Page
In photoshop, using a portrait A3 format, I created the background for
the article, so that I could easily add it into In-Design where I could
place my text over the top. I added my pictures and shapes around the
corners, in co-ordination with where my topics in the article would
land. I also messed with the transparency because I didn’t want the
images to be too imposing and take away from the article.
I then added text using In-Design to get the column effect.
To get the column effect, I went to Layout, Margins and
Columns and selected 6 columns.
Once I had added all my text over the top and made sure it
was how I wanted it, I saved it as a jpeg and exported it to
my files.
6. Process: What should you be…
I started by adding the title, and adding some
shape to it to give the impression its flowing,
and the reader some intention a to in what way
they should read the title. I then added my
headings and subheadings, changing the colour
and font to make them distinguishable, and
added images to accompany them.
Then, to keep with
the theme, I added
shapes into the
corners with similar
colours displayed
throughout the
magazine.
Finally I added the
page number and
“TEMPO” under the
boarder.
