Digital Graphic Narrative Planning
Use this booklet to help structure your planning and collate your planning documents.
Considerations:
There are lots of things to consider in this project. Fill out each section in detail to show you have thought about each one. You
should imagine that this is a live project, so considerations like cost, quantity and codes of practice must be thought about in that
context rather than just as a college project.
Costs:
The costs that may come maybe stationary. Also there will be printing costs which may cost about a 50p to a
pound.
Available resources:
-Computer
for doing all my work it
-photoshop
I will produce my graphics on this program.
-penspencils ,and paper
for brainstorming
Quantity:
At first I would like to produce about only 300 copies of book because I would know much popular it will be,
and I wouldn’t want to lose too much money if they didn’t sell. Although with that being said the little mermaid
is a popular fairy tale and people may find my amendments interesting. If the book proved to be popular I
would then think about producing in 1000’s, like about 5-10,000.
Audience and Target Market:
My target market will be a parent because they will be buying the book for their child/children. I want my book
to look appealing to them because if the parents don’t like my book, it doesn’t stand a chance of audience
reading it.that is exactly the reason why it is important to appeal to parents; they control what their child reads.
However my target audience will children aged 5-10.I feel my book may appeal more to girls rather than boys
because the main characters in the story are young females. This means that they can relate to them more
and empathise them more than a male can.
Quality Factors:
To keep my work to a high standard I will need to make sure I don’t have any distractions. I will make sure I
am following my schedule so that my work will be finished on time.
The factors may influence the quality of my work could be a number of things. Firstly distractions like phones,
music and the internet for example. Secondly, not coming to college would be a factor because this means
that I would lose out on vital production time therefore I need to make sure that I attend everyday. Thirdly
things outside of college could be a factor like lack of sleep, this will decrease your concentration when you
working the following morning.
Codes of Practice:
Regulation:
Books have to comply with toy safety directive 2009/48/EC because in some cases a book is like a toy, due to
they’re being things inside or hanging from it. This doesn’t really apply to this project because my book will be
just paper and will not contain any small parts which may be harmful to children.
It is also covered my obscene publications 1959.
Furthermore it is covered by the quality act to avoid discrimination taking place in the book. However in my
book I will not be discriminating against any social group, race or religion.
Copyright:
During this project I will not use other peoples’ work in my project because it will be classed copyright. If you
use someone’s work in your work you would have the share the profits because it completely your own work.
Copyright means that the creators of the work have the right to decide how their work is used. Copyrights on
old stories may have run out, if it has you can use it because it is no longer covered by the laws. All the work
used in my project will be my own so I follow these laws.
Ethical Issues:
There are some ethical issues to be considered .One issue is decency because I got to make sure that my
book is of an acceptable standard. When creating a female teenage character I will have to make sure that
they could don’t look too provocative.
Also I will consider representations because I wouldn’t want portray anyone in the wrong way. For example, I
don’t want to portray a certain gender or race as bad. In my story I have two good female characters and one
bad female characters so it balances it out a bit
Resources:
A successful project relies on good planning. Considering all the resources you will need for a project and then assessing which
you already have and which you need will help ensure you are ready to start your project.
If there is a resource you don’t currently have, then consider how you are going to get it before you go in to production.
Resource:
Do you have
it? What do you need to do to get it?
Computer Yes
Photoshop Yes
Pens Yes
Pencil Yes
Paper Yes
Production Schedule:
Delivering your project on time is vital. In order to do this, you need a solid plan of action. This will help you divide up your work in
to manageable chunks to be tackled one at a time. It will also allow you to plan which tasks need to be done in which order. It will
also allow you to track your progress each day. If you are falling behind, you will need to modify the way you work. If you work
faster than expected, you can clearly see what the next steps you need to take are.

Health and safety:
Your health and safety and that of those around you is very important. Just like in industry, an accident could prevent you from
working. Whilst we don’t work in a highly dangerous environment, there are still risks. Some are short term, such as trips and
spillages whilst others, such as long term damage to eyesight or back problems, may affect you much later in life.
Consider the risks based on the activities you will be undertaking during the project. Explain how you could prevent them from
happening.
Ensure you reference appropriate pieces of legislation, design to protect people at work.
Health and Safety Issue How can you prevent it?
