The Face in the Dark

Its October of 2016, I’m justa few days away from moving into my new house, and leavingbehind a house that
I had been livingin for the past10 years, which was an emotional time for me and my family,as a practically
grew up in that house, and it held a lot of memories of when I was younger there. Anyway, skippingpastthe
boringpack up of the house, itwas a Thursday night and both my parents were working the nightshift.My
siblings wereat my Grandparents house, as they were too young to stay at home without my parents,but I
decided to stay home alonefor the night becauseI love havingthe houseto myself.

It’s around 9:00PM, and I am downstairs in my living roomwith my PS4, playingwhatI remember to be GTA V.
I had spent hours on the game prior and nothing disturbed me, that was until however I heard a thud coming
from upstairs,which caughtme off guard, because the thud sounded very intentional.Usually noises likethis
wouldn’t bother me, becauseI figured they were justnormal house noises,but this one however was loud,
and sounded as if it were a foot hitting the carpeted floor hard.Needless to say,I was on edge now, and I
couldn’t fully concentrateon my game, as all thatwas goingthrough my head was the possibility that
someone was in my house. I decided to rationalisethe situation in my head, which did make me feel better.
Eventually, time went by, and I had forgotten about the noise.

About 30 minutes of gameplay later, it’s now 10:00PM, and I decide that it’s time to come of my consoleand
watch some TV in my kitchen. The second I leave my livingroom, and am in full eye shotof my stairs,I
instantly remember the thud sound from earlier.I once again chokemyself up, tellingmyself that there is
nothing to worry about. After about an hour of watching TV in the kitchen, I was strugglingto keep my eyes
open, that was until I heard a set of ordered thumps coming from upstairs.My heart skipped a beat when I
heard this,and I instantly feltdread in my stomach. There was not much I could do, as there was no way I was
going upstairs to confrontwho or what was making the noises.For my own safety, I grabbed the larges kitchen
knife I could find,propped itnext to me on the sofa,and then went to firmly shutthe kitchen door. I satthere
waitinganxiously for more noises.But nothing.

Minutes go by. Nothing. Not a singlenoisecomingfrom outside my kitchen. This didn’tmake me feel better
however, as I was still shakingin my skin atthis point, wantingto leave my house and run to the neighbours.
Subconsciously,I decided to look up to my kitchen door. My heart dropped when I realised thatthe kitchen
door had been cracked open, and a face. A long black gut wrenchingface was peering through the crack
staringatme. The only thing visiblewere his bigwhite eyes, and his painfully widegrin that highlighted his
unnaturally largeteeth. He emerged from the dark abyss,and charged at me. I satcompletely frozen in fear,
and felt as if I were about to throw up, as his mouth opened and he let out a devilish,demon likescream.
Then, everything went black,until I suddenly awoke feeling dizzy and nauseated. I was on my sofa,in my
kitchen, with the kitchen knife by my side.I checked the time to see it was around 2:30 in the morning. I
suddenly got a flood of dread in my whole body, I looked up to the kitchen door, and it was cracked open.
