   MUSIC INDUSTRY
HOW ARE MUSIC VIDEOS GENERALLY MADE?

 The process of making a video can be broken down into
sections; planning, filming and finally editing.
 The average video will usually take 3 to 4 weeks to complete;
up to a week to plan and agree locations etc., usually two 12 -
14 hour days filming all the shots and then about 2 weeks or
so to edit all the footage.
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF A MUSIC VIDEO
          FOR THE COMPANIES?

 The purpose of music videos for the companies is simple; they
are a tool to making more money and therefore more profit.
 Artists are promoted and more known to the public through
their music videos as they are shown everywhere. This means
there face, star image and persona is created and understood
  by the audience.
 They become more known and more famous, thus more
people buy their songs and albums which leads to the amount
of profit the companies make increasing.
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF A MUSIC VIDEO
           FOR THE ARTISTS?

 The purpose of a music video for the artist is to get
themselves more known to the public so people know who
  sung that song.
 They want the public to know what they look like, associate
them with a certain image or persona so that they become
  more popular.
 The dif ference between the artists and the companies is that
the sole purpose and aim for the artists isn’t just to make
money. Of course they do it to make more money for
themselves, but the want to be known for their music and for
more people to enjoy their music.
HOW MUCH MONEY IS USUALLY SPENT ON
THE ON THE AVERAGE MUSIC VIDEO?

 The average music video can cost anywhere between £70,000
to a few million pounds. That is how much the larger record
labels will spend on music videos on average.
 The most expensive music video ever made was Michael and Janet
Jackson’s video for their song ‘Scream.’ This video cost a colossal
    £7,000,000 to create.
 Obviously you can create a good music video with a small
budget and this has been done.
 A very famous music video that was created on small budget was the
video for ‘Sabotage’ by The Beastie Boys.
HOW DO AUDIENCES ACCESS MUSIC VIDEOS?

 YouTube; this is a very common way for people to view and
watch music videos. They are free to watch on this site so a
lot of people take advantage of this in order to watch the
video and listen to their favourite artists songs.
 Music Channels e.g. Kiss, The Box, Kerrang etc. ; these
channels show bands and artists music videos all day on
various dif ferent television networks. Again, these are free
to watch if you have a digital television. A lot of people
nowadays watch music videos through this.
 Music on Demand; this is also a free service on certain
networks such as Virgin. You can select a music video to
watch and also on these services you tend to find interviews
with the artist where they may talk about their song and the
video. This has become a very popular way of watching
  music videos.
