10. Data Analysis:
Looking at the data I have received, I can see that the people who have taken my survey are within my target
audience range (18-20) and (17 or younger). This is good when applying it to my own music video as I now have
hard evidence of my target audience’s responses to my chosen soundtrack.
Looking at the results once more, most of my applicants said they preferred abstract music videos. This is good
as I can be more experimental with my music video, knowing that my target audience would accept and
appreciate it.
Location count results:
• 1 – 0 responses From these responses I can gather the information that the majority of
• 2 – 4 responses the people who took my survey would expect 2-3 locations within a
• 3 – 3 responses music video. When taking into account what type of music these people
• 4+ - 1 responses like, it is mainly Indie Rock. This is good for the progress of my music video as my genre
is Indie. Therefore, I can experiment with a few different locations to follow the conventions of the
populous’ ideal indie music video.
Most of my applicants use YouTube as their main source of music. This is valid as there is a factual evidence to
suggest most people use YouTube as their main source for music video and digital content.
Every single person replied with the response ‘no’ to solely listening to mainstream artists. This is a predictable
response as there is so much variation in music. Whereas in the 20th century, music was still categorising itself,
whereas today in the 21st century, there is thousands of genres and sub-genres to listen to and appreciate.
There are mixed responses for how often people watch Indie music videos. This could also be due to the fact
that there is so much choice. A lot of Indie artists these days due to Web 2.0 are able to become a lot more
popular and mainstream very quickly. Therefore, it is harder to indie/experimental artists and mainstream
artists from one another.
There were a few different responses to my chosen soundtrack, but the ones that most stood out were
‘Hauntingly peaceful’ and ‘Curious/Eerie’. This is the exact response I was trying to create when sending off this
questionnaire.
When asking the question to what was their favourite music video, I got the response ‘good narrative or
something with meaning you can try to relate to’ – this is interesting as I was solely set on creating an abstract
video. But this response had made me think of other options such as a faint storyline, or a message/moral/or
an idea that my audience can relate to their own lives.
