2. Focus groupMy group asked my media class
several question in relation to our
music video.This was done before
constructing the video. Several
questions where asked (not part of the
question are below) to gather
feedback.This was useful because the
people in our class fitted the profiles
of both EDM and Indie genres. The
information they gave us then helped
in working out what to include in our
music video. This is because it would
match the conventions and would be
appealing to the audience.
3. QUESTIONAIRE
TEMPLATE■ 1. What is your age?
■ 2. What is your gender?
■ 3. What is your social class background?
■ 4. Would you watch my music video again?
■ 5. Did my music video reflect EDM and Indie
■ 6. Does my digipack and poster link to the EDM and
Indie genre
■ 7. How could my Digi pack and poster be improved?
4. Con
text■ My questionnaire was produced using survey monkey and was shared using social
media platforms such as Facebook and twitter. This enables me to gather feedback.
■ In total 40 people answered my questionnaire. This means that the data for each
table/chart will add up to 40. For example for question 1 “What is your age?” 12 people
were below 18 years old, 20 people were 18-24 years old, 5 people where 25-29 and 3
left where of older age groups. This total adds to 40.

The Amount of people for are of certain age groups out 0f 40
This bar chart displays that
the age group of 18-24 was
the most popular age group of
the people answering my
questionnaire.This was very
useful due to the fact the
stereotypical age of people
who listen to EDM and Indie
genre are from this age group.
This was displayed via
research of artists from each
genre. For example Avicii and
Artic monkeys.This makes the
data collected for the other
questions tested reliable.
6. Question 2” What is
your gender?”gender
male female
When researching gender for
EDM and Indie using you gov the
gender of male and female was
both split and was very close to
50% for each. My questionnaire
displays that 22 people who
answered it was male and 18 was
female. This is close to 50% each
way. 55% for male and 45% for
female. Once again this makes
the data collected in further
questions reliable as the audience
answering the questions relate to
the genre.

This displays that most of the people
who answered my questionnaire
where mainly from the social class
group ‘middle class’ followed by
‘upper middle class’. this related to
the research conducted on ‘yougov’
as it displayed that the main
audience who listen to EDM and
indie are from the middle class
group.
This makes the answers for my final
questions of my questionnaire
reliable due to the fact the audience
answering them can relater to the
genres.
8. Question 4. Would you watch
my music video again?Amount of people
yes no
Out of the 40 people who answered my
questionnaire on Facebook, 8 of them said they
wouldn't watch the music video again. This leaves
32 left who would. This displays that my music
video hit the conventions and stereotypes of the
EDM and Indie genre due to the fact the audience
(who fit the category of people who listen to these
genres) found it appealing and would watch it
again. However the people who answered ‘no’
could not be part of the category to listen to these
genres. For example they could be of a higher or
younger age group of ‘18-24’ or of a different social
class to ‘middle’ and ‘upper middle class’, making
the not attracted to the genres.
9. Question 5. Did my music
video reflect the EDM and
Indie genreAmount of people
very well well not well not at all
These results clearly display that the majority
of the 40 people who answered my
questionnaire on Facebook believe my music
video fitted the EDM and Indie genre ‘well’,
then followed by ‘very well’, ‘not well’ and
then only 1 individual said ‘not at all’.This
highlights that the research conducted ( via
YouTube, yougov and focus group) before
the music video was constructed was very
useful. This is because it informed me and my
group what the audience wants to see as well
as giving us conventions of the music video
genres.
10. Question 6. Does my digipack and
poster link to the EDM and Indie
genre■ I was given a variety of answers for this question. The majority of the people who answered
the questionnaire stated that both the ancillary tasks (Digipack and Poster) related to both
genres (EDM and Indie). Answers stated that this was due to the colour scheme, as well as
the props such as skulls, guitars and then the outfits worn by the band members. The
colour scheme of mainly black and red was used to mix both genres together. Indie usually
has simple colours such as black, white and grey, whereas EDM has a range of bright
colours such as red, green and blue from the RGB split. So a mix of each genres colours
where added. However, there was an answer stating that the colour scheme doesn’t match
the EDM genre as much as it does Indie. This is because they said it lacked other bright
colours and it would have been better if I “introduced a splash of the other colours from the
RGB split”.This individual also stated the props of a skull and guitar are more indie than
EDM.This is because EDM usually uses electronic instruments, whereas for indie it is the
opposite. Also the skull can reflect negative and upsetting emotions usually explored in the
indie genre, whereas EDM is commonly more energetic and positive. Overall this tells me
that even though the conventions of both EDM and Indie are explored in my ancillary tasks,
the Indie genres is much more worked on in comparison to EDM.
11. Question 7. How could my Digi pack
and poster be improved?■ As previously mentioned, an individual stated that if I “introduced a splash of the other
colours from the RGB split” it would have related t0o both genres better. This is
because my ancillary tasks mainly display connotations of the Indie genre.Additionally
another individual stated that it would have been good to show the transitions from
bad (dark) to good (light/ colourful) ( which is explored in my music video) in both Digi
pack and poster. This is because it would relate more to my music videos narrative.
This would have conducted by adding a gradient effect on to each section on the Digi
pack fading from dark to light to display the protagonist “feeling his was through the
darkness”
■ However many people stated that there isn’t any improvements to be made because
they actually believe the colour scheme works well in both ancillary tasks. This is
because the darkness relates to the Indie genre and the colours of red relates to the
EDM genre. One person stated that the red stands out very well in both ancillary tasks
making the overall image seem m ore appealing/ attractive.
12. Question 8. Does the music video
and ancillary tasks link?■ The music video was said to have linked to both Digi pack and poster.
This is because screen shots from the music video where used on both
of the tasks. Screenshots of the protagonist outfit was used on the Digi
pack as well as props such as the skull. Additionally the poster links to
both Digi pack and music video because the poster has a section where
the album cover from the Digi pack is displayed as well as a screenshot
of the duo band members from my music video.
■ Additionally the link of black and red is portrayed through out the
ancillary tasks, and the music video uses a range of colours as well as
sticking with the black/ dark theme at the first half. However as stated
previously, to0 make them all link even more, the ancillary tasks should
have the other colours from the RGB split used ( green and blue)
