2. GENDER & AGE
• The majority of my respondents were
female which I have to consider when
analysing the data because males
may differ in opinion to the females
and it is important to then effect my
target audience.
• My respondents were mostly below
18-29 which is my target audience for
my product therefore their opinion is
important to then create decisions
about my product as I want to make
sure I appeal to the target market.
4. • This question is useful to see the distribution of
interest in genre. They could tick multiple answers
as I wanted to see what kind of music videos
people would watch. The majority said indie
pop/rock which is good because I am planning to
do a video under this genre. Dance and house was
popular too and rock, pop and electronical. The
least popular was rap, classical, metal I think this is
because they are quite ‘extreme’ genre’s with a set
style whereas genre’s like indie pop/rock have a
large range of style which is often dependent on
the artist and their style.
5. • I then specified which genre they would
prefer to watch. They predominately
answered indie pop rock which again is
positive because the questions to follow will
help my planning of my video because they
ask questions about the style of the video
and content.
6. • Summary of this is that most people felt mise-
en-scene was the most important element in
music videos. Cinematography came in second
and editing third. However in the bar chart
they appear very level-pegging in terms of
importance there wasn’t one which was
considerably considered more important than
the other (only mise-en-scene by five votes)
therefore I can summarize all of these elements
are just as important however if I was to focus
my efforts on any of the areas it would be
mise-en-scene as the majority did feel like this
is the most important. But I am going to aim to
make sure I try to make each area as effective
as I can.
7. • These responses gave me a look at the
kinds of music videos people liked. I could
also see the specifics about why they like
them. For example the Alt J Bloodflood
they said the reverse story line is effective
and the cinematography is good and
colour use which I can then take what
people like and try and use some
techniques these music video used in my
8. • The majority of the responses
show that music videos are all in
all a part of people’s lives and
most people said often/sometimes
therefore I can conclude that
music video’s are contemporary
and people do watch them
therefore I know the audience
research I am conducting is asking
people who do have an interest in
watching music videos therefore it
is valid.
9. • The responses here inform me what people expect to
see in a music video which I can use to my advantage
when creating my music video to make sure that I
include these factors. Common answers: artistic ideas,
the artist, lip-syncing, scenes fitting the genre/lyrics,
good lighting/shots/cinematography, good mise-en-
scene, open interpretations, good storyline.
10. • The most popular choice was narrative style
videos, then abstract and then performance.
This informs me about the style of videos my
target audience like. Therefore may effect my
decision in what kind of music video I create.
