2. A digipak is the packaging for either CDs
or DVDs.
Typically a digipak is made form cardboard
with an internal plastic holder for one or
more discs.
Usually they function by flipping open like
a book, however, sometimes they have 3
parts, so that one portion of the packaging
opens to the right and one to the left with
the CD in the centre position. The portion
of the digipak that holds the CD is made of
plastic like a traditional jewel case. All
digipaks include various elements such as
visual image, band/ artist name, album
title, basic background information of the
band/artist.
3. FRONT CONVENTIONS
• Firstly a very common convention of most digipak’s is that the artists name and the
title of the album will be on the front panel. In addition to this, the front of the digipak
will be used to convey the aesthetic of the artists predominant genre and will carry
aspects of the artists image within it.
• This also helps to accentuate the artist brand image which in turn increases the
popularity of the artist.
• Digipak also exemplifies the artistic and creative approach the artist is taking
throughout the music
4. BACK CONVENTIONS
• The back of the digipak tends to sport an image which relates to the ongoing theme
throughout the digipak itself.
• Typically the back will display a chronological list of all tracks on the album. This
sometimes includes the length of the track and the number
• At the bottom we will see information in copyright and a barcode as well as the record
companies record companies at bottom corner.
• Info such as the bands website or the artists social networking sites
• Often we will see logos for record labels contributing to the album as well as a CD
identification number
