Our first ancillary that we will be creating is a digipak for
our music video, this slide share will present the
conventions and uses of a digipak.
2. WHAT IS A DIGIPAK?
• A digipak is a patented style of CD or DVD packaging and is a
registered trademark of AGI etc.
• They normally have a gatefold like a book in which the outer
packaging consists of card/paper and the inner packaging being
plastic.
• They are also mainly used for special edition singles and albums
to which ours consists of a single.
• Digipaks became very popular with artists and record labels in
the early 2000s.
3. CONVENTIONS OF THE FOLD.
• They are normally designed to fold into a square shaped CD
case, however there are many other ways for it to be designed
and can have a different amount of panels.
• The front and back panels are the main promotors of the single
and used to draw attention and bring in the target audience.
• The inside of the digipak is used to present information and is
usually a lot more subtle that the outside as the main purpose is
to present information.
• The paper used to create the digipak is folded around the plastic
to secure the disc and prevent anything falling out.
4. CONVENTIONS OF THE FRONT.
• The front of the digipak tends to usually have an eye
catching image on the front.
• This image illustrated on the panels will usually
correspond to the song.
• Here the title and artist is normally also incorperated.
5. CONVENTIONS OF THE BACK
• The back panel of the digipak usually withholds the track list of the
album.
• Other information is normally displayed consisting of the record label,
the barcode for purchase, extra information from the artists perspective
etc.
• The artists name and album name is normally included in both the back
and front of the digipak.
• The album artwork is also normally portrayed on the back as well as the
front of the digipak, however normally are different but within the same
theme.
6. CONVENTIONS OF THE INSIDE.
• Inside the the packaging is a plastic, normally transparent, disc holder to
which the disc sits in to secure it does not fall out. The disc of the album
or single also normally has some form of artwork or description on it.
• Beneath the transparent disc holder Is also another form of artwork that
ties in with the rest of the artwork
• Other information is also incorperated, for example lyrics to the song/s
aswell as usually a message from the artist.
