1. The genre of music I am going to base my magazine on is R&B. This is because it is the area I already
know the most about, and will find it the genre most interesting to carry out my research into. The
diversity of talent within this genre is one that attracts me as it has a mass market, and with many of
my friends and family also having a great interest in R&B it means I will constantly be able to get
their opinions on every aspect of my work. From making the magazine I hope to achieve a successful
looking magazine that people within the R&B market can relate to.

IPC Media (Mainstream):
IPC was formed in 1963 as International Publishing Company.
It is one of the leading consumer magazines and digital publishers in the UK and currently produces
over 60iconics media brands, with print alone reaching 2/3rds of UK women and 42% of UK men.

Emap was established and founded in 1947. They specialise mainly in the business to business
publishing space (b2b) and have specific publications for each genre with content relating to the
industry such as nursing, retail and media.

Who would own your magazine?
Bauer Media would own my magazine as it has the markets leading music and entertainment titles,
and have made successful music magazines such as Q, Mojo and Kerrang. I chose one of the main
players as R&B/Hip Hop has a mass market with many areas to cover and therefore would be
benefited more by one of the main players.
