1. Questionnaire analysis
Through analysing the feedback of my questionnaire I found that there was a wide variety in
peoples musical taste and that getting an artist’s that will interests the majority will be
harder than I initially thought.
When questioned on what colour scheme they believed would be most appropriate for a
R&B/Hip Hop magazine, my feedback was very consistent. The colours black was in the
majority of peoples answered, followed by blue and then red. It has brought to my attention
that these are the colours many people associate with this music genre, and that they
should feature in my magazine as they are unisex, neutral colours, that will appeal to the
majority. As the main focus of the magazine, all but one person stated they wanted it to be
interviews, as 44% stated they like to read the latest information and find out personal
information about their favourite celebrities. As well as being people’s favourite thing to
read, an interview was also voted as being what people would most like to feature as the
main article.
Nearly 90% answered YouTube as being the primary source for finding out about the latest
music with 66% getting their music via internet downloads. This informed me that the
internet plays a major source in the magazine industry allowing more opportunities, and
different ways to connect with your favourite artists. Telling me that my magazine must
feature things such as free internet downloads in order to keep people interested and
entice them into buying it.
When asked about the magazines content, both chatty talkative, with slang and a mixture of
both that and no slang, both received 55% of the votes. With this information it is evident,
that I should use chatty language, but only when appropriate instead of throughout the
whole magazine. For the front cover 66% voted that they believed one main image, with
lots of information about content would be most suitable. This feedback surprised me as I
thought many people would prefer a simpler front cover, however taking this on board it is
evident that the majority like to see as much as the content as possible on the front page,
before making a decision to read a magazine. Lastly when asked what puts them off the
most and what they avoid reading in a magazine, the majority of people stated ‘long
articles’ or ‘long interviews’, proving to me that people care more about the quality of the
content over how long the magazine is.
This feedback as whole has helped me come to a conclusion of what my aim will be when
creating the magazine, what to include in the contents and what to include in order to
entice people.
