Working Title:
The Indie Mix
Audience:
My target audience is 15-20-year olds of any gender. This is because this is the most popular age
range for Indie music therefore the product will attract the largest audience possible. My audience
will include any gender as all genders are interested in indie music therefore, I don’t want to limit
my audience. I will try to target the working class as indie music is very popular with this class of
people. This is because a lot of lyrics included in the songs are quite relatable to this class
therefore the higher class may not enjoy the music. As well as that, one of the best things about
indie music is gigs which are quite messy therefore probably not appealing to the higher class. To
ensure that I target this audience, I will include many images that reflect the indie theme and my
colour scheme will also be quite dark to symbolise what indie music and gigs are all about.
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
From previous projects, I have acquired a variety of different skills. For example, my frequent
Photoshop use as definitely improved my Photoshop skills. I have gained a wider knowledge of
different tools and how to use them. For example, I can now remove background and unwanted
features from images very well. This is a crucial skill for this specific project as I will need to do this
when editing my images for my magazine as there will be unwanted features included in them. As
well as that, my camera use in the music video and Irn Bru projects will be highly beneficial as I will
need a camera to take my pictures for my magazine in this project. My previous experience with
cameras will help me as it will save me much needed time as I will have already gone through the
learning process. This will allow me to spend more time on taking the photos and making sure that
they are good quality and fit the theme of my magazine.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
For this project I am going to make an Indie band-based magazine. It will include new and
upcoming bands for the audience to discover. The magazine will include quite a dark theme. This
is to attract the audience and create the correct aesthetic to correspond the bands included. The
magazine will include large images of each band as the image of a band is what often attracts
some of its fans. Images also attract the attention of people much more effectively than text so the
use of large images will attract more audience towards the magazine. The product will also include
a good amount of text as the reader will want to read about the band to see if they may interest
them. The images will just act as a sort of magnet to firstly attract the reader whereas the text will
maintain the reader's attention. To help me make the best product possible, I will need to do some
research. For my research, I will look at other existing products and see what features they include
on their magazines. This will allow me to view the pros and cons of each therefore allowing me to
collect inspiration from them.
Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
During the evaluation process, I plan to view my final product and state the positives and
negatives of the product. This will allow me to reflect on what I have created and allow me to see
what I can improve on in my final major project. This will help me achieve a better grade overall
and therefore help me later down the line.
