The document outlines Kieran Bradley's initial plans for their final major project (FMP) on creating a radio show. Kieran was interested in radio from a young age and feels it is the best media option for showcasing their skills. They considered topics like politics, music, and current events for interviews. Kieran wants to incorporate radio elements into their FMPs to show interest to future employers and universities in radio and media. They are worried about producing work of high enough quality to progress in their studies and get into their desired university course in television and radio.
2. Initial Reaction• Building up to my FMP I had a number of different topics that I could of covered, I have decided to create a radio show, I think this was
the best option for me, because it’s the side of media I feel strongly about, because radio is something I have always been interested in
from a young age. I love the idea of writing a script and researching to then go on and create a show. I also really enjoying talking to
people about certain topics such as politics, music or current events, happening around the world and getting there own view and point
on it. I could of created a video game, magazine cover, DVD cases. I enjoy making scripts and editing, putting music and different sound
effects on the project I have created. Overall leading up to this project I have been very excited to create this, because it’s something
that really interests me, and I really feel as if I can showcase my skills with this project. When I first got told about the Final Major
Project, I was worried but I wasn’t at the same time, I was because I really want to make sure that my work is good enough to get on to
the second year, of level 3, I feel as if it seems harder this year to get the grades needed. On the other hand I wasn’t worried because I
had already done one Final Major Project on level 2 and I felt as if that went really well. I feel as if my progression this year is going well,
I think I am well on the way to getting my Merit needed for year two. My main goal is to become a Radio Presenter hopefully for the
BBC, it is something that has always interested me and it’s radio that really got me in to media. Each time I have had a Final Major
Project I have tried my best to incorporate some form of radio, and something audio based, I try to create a radio show if I can, I do this
because I want to show future employees and tutors at University that I am in fact very interested in radio and Media as a whole. I think
this product will help me because it gives me a great chance to become hands on with new software and practice doing interviews and
editing audio, these are all of the things that I would be doing working as a radio presenter, it will also really help me with the second
year. The thing that has worries me the most throughout this year and since I started studying Media at college, is overthinking about
my work not being good enough, and thinking that I am not going to get the grades needed to pass and go on further. I am very excited
about University and what it has to offer me, I have found a course that I am really interested in doing, the course is Television and
Radio at The University of Salford. I know the UCAS points and grades needed for the course, my main focus is making sure I get
them.
6. Mind Map
Here is the final idea that I have chosen to develop, I have chosen this idea
because I feel as if it will give me the chance to explore new software and
most importantly of all, it’s a radio show on a topic that interests me, I also
think it is a very relevant subject and it fits in well with my target audience.
7. Mind Map
Here you can see a number of alternative ideas that I could of chosen, I have
thought about each stage of the idea, for example, the sound effects and music
that could of potentially been used, and the questions and topics that could of
potentially been focused on when I would come to conduct my interview. You can
also see that each topic I have chosen is relevant within society today.
8. Mood Board
These are some interviews are really interest me
Different forms of
interviewing
12. Mood/Feeling Based on British
Army, Mood Board
Looking at the British Army Mood Board that I created, I can see a lot of
emotions on through the pictures I have chosen, for example some pictures
show panic, others show happiness, and others show sadness, I have chosen
to base my Mood Board on this topic, because I think it fits in really well with
what my documentary is about. I have tried to explore every possible feeling
on this Mood Board. These images that I have collected will help my product
in a number of different ways, such as allowing my to gain inspiration when it
comes to creating my documentary. Also allowing me to gain inspiration for
topics that I may also talk about, hen I come to create my documentary. Also
the British Army is a very important topic when it comes to the UK leaving the
EU as, this will ultimately have some effects.
14. Mood Board Analysis
Is there any repetition in the images you have collected? Repeated colours/images
styles/fonts/tone/mood
• After looking at my mood board, I have seen that all the images are related in someway or another. They are all
radio related, each image holds a certain mood, I have found images of pre-existing interviews based on Brexit. I
have also found images exploring different forms of interviewing ( studio based, outside, live in the open). I have
also seen that there are different colours used within some images I have found. Also I think the mood in general
that you get from looking at my mood board is that the topic that I am covering is serious. I have also made three
other individual mood boards, two of them expressing what the content of my show may be about, for example
one is solely based on the NHS, one is solely based on the Army, and I have made a third one, that expresses a
range of different moods and emotions, on it you will find moods such as, sad, happy, and angry. I have show this
through a number of different ways, for example, I have used song lyrics, scenes out of certain movies, a whole
range of different colours, to express love, lust, anger, sadness. I have also used a number of different fonts as well
to express this, exploring different fonts will help me a lot for when I come to produce my FMP.
How will your mood board influence your final product?
After looking at my mood board, all of my images will influence my final project, because I they are all heavily related.
Also because I have a number of different radio stations on my mood board, this means that I can listen to each one
and look at the different presenting techniques, and also I can look at the pre-existing interviews that I have found to
understand and get inspiration on what questions I could ask and how I should come across when conducting an
interview. Another way that my mood board will influence my final product is I will make sure that I listen to both
points of view when interviewing, also I will look at the different colours I have used within my mood board when I
come to create my logo.
15. Pros and Cons Royal Wedding Idea
I am very pleased with this potential idea, I think it is relevant and fits in well with my
chosen target audience, I think in regards of making it, it would be possible, I also think
the time frame needed to produce this idea would be realistic. The equipment needed to
produce this idea, would be a voice recorder, a studio/quiet room and a script producing
of questions that would be asked and a beginning jingle. Everything that I have stated
here, I would class as a pro, looking at the cons of this idea, I think it would be hard to
produce your own sound effects for this idea, for example the sound of trumpets would
be hard to recreate. I think this possible topic for my radio show would really work well,
because of my target audience, the Royal Family are a family that everyone cross the
world knows, and they are always relevant within society, I also think I would be able to
research this idea very well, because I know of a lot of trust worthy websites, and links
that I could get information from.
16. Pros and Cons NHS Idea
I am very pleased with my NHS potential idea, I think it would fit in very
well with my chosen target audience, it is also a very relevant topic within
today’s society. The pros of this idea would be that the sound effects
needed would be easy to source and to make sure they are royalty free,
another pro would be that there is a lot of information online in the way of
articles and newspapers to get inspiration from when I come to my
research. I also think this is a good idea because my target audience, will be
very well know with the NHS, as it is a very relevant topic and it is always in
the news, also I know a lot of information about the current state of the
NHS, regarding junior doctors and the on-going strikes, I also would be able
to get sound effects off of the internet for this, if I was to chose to for my
topic.
