1. Q1. In what ways does your media products use,
develop and challenge forms and conventions of
real media products?

2. Magazine Cover: Use
I mostly based my Film
magazine on this version
of scream magazine.
However I also
incorporated some other
features off other horror
movie magazines.
As you can see the main
design of my front cover
it is quite similar to the
existing movie magazine.
The main background is
the same colour, being
black but on the existing
magazine they have used
a smoke effect in the
background to give it
more of a horror look.
The image I have used is
very similar in the
aspects of that it is a mid-
shot and it is a male
character. This is because
from my research and
planning I found out that
people prefer this layout.
The genre of my film
magazine is horror and
most successful horror
films are made in
America. So I have
made my model wear a
dark shirt for the main
image because from
my research and
planning I have found
out that most male
characters in American
horror films wear
either a shirt, t-shirt or
hoodie. So to make my
magazine look more
professional I asked
him to wear a shirt.
For my magazine I have used the
same shot type as the scream
magazine which is a mid-shot. I
have done this because my
audience feedback shows that most
people prefer this.

3. Magazine Cover: Develop
Even though I based
some of my magazine
cover on this specific
one, there are a few
things that I have
developed.
An example of
something that I have
developed on my
magazine cover is the
Masthead. As you can
see the style of the text
is more square shaped
compared to the blood
splattered one on the
existing magazine. I used
this style of text because
this is the one that was
mainly recommended
from my audience
feedback. Also I have put
my masthead central on
the page and one
underneath the other.
Whereas the existing
magazine just has it
spread across the page.
Another thing that I
have developed on my
magazine cover is the
cover lines that I have
used. As you can see I
have included more
than the magazine on
the right and I have
kept all of the text the
same colour and same
size. Where as the
existing magazine has
used different colours
and different sized
text.
One final thing that I have developed on my film magazine
cover is the background. Even though the main colour on
both magazines is black, the existing magazine has created a
smoke effect where as I have just kept mine fully black to
make everything stand out more.

4. Magazine Cover: Challenge
On my magazine I have
incorporated my film
poster onto it where as
the existing magazine
only has images of
people on it.
On my magazine I have
included a banner at the
top and bottom, both
being different colours.
Where as the existing
magazine doesn’t have a
banner at all it just has
text and a rectangle
behind the text.
On my magazine I have
used grey and red text
when writing my cover
stories where as the
existing magazine has
used just white.
At the bottom left of
my magazine I have
included the price tag
of my magazine and
positioned it above the
barcode so that it is
visible. Where as the
existing magazine
doesn’t include a price
tag at all.

5. Film Poster: Use
I mostly based my
Film poster on this
version of the
Conjuring. However
I also incorporated
some other
features off other
horror movie
posters as well.
One convention
that is the same on
both of the
magazines is the
fact that they both
include a location/
building instead of
having a person,
animal or creature.
Another convention
which is the same on
these two posters is the
date. This is because both
have made the dates
quite large and visible
because they wanted to
advertise when the film
actually comes out. They
are also visible because of
the text used, it makes
them stand out from their
background.
Another convention which is
the same on both of these
posters is that they have both
used a foggy effect over the
main image to give their poster
more of a ghostly look.
Another convention which is the
same on both of these posters is
they both have a casting crew
information part on there to give
recognition to the people involved.

6. Film Poster: Develop
There are some
conventions that I
have developed from
the existing poster
on the right.
One convention that
I have developed on
my film poster is the
fact that I have used
a strap line on my
poster ‘They Should
Not Have Entered’
where as the existing
poster has just used
‘from the director of
saw and insidious,
Another convention
that I have developed
on my contents page Is
my main title. Instead
of having it in block
letters like the poster
on the right I have
chosen to use a text
where it looks like
there has been blood
splattered, to give it
more of a horror look.
One final thing that I have developed of my film
poster is the fact that I have brought forward the
building from the background, where as the
existing poster on the right has it in the
background and chose to put the tree in the
foreground.

7. Film Poster: Challenge
On my film poster I
have added the
actors names at the
top of my film poster
where as the existing
poster has used a
cover line which says
‘from the director of
saw and insidious’.
On my film poster I
have completely
changed the size and
the layout of my
casting crew
information. I have
used fewer line and
extended how long it
is in comparison to
the existing film
poster.
On my film poster I
have added film
company logos to the
bottom of my poster,
where as the existing
poster doesn’t include
any any.
On my film poster I have added film
reviews onto my poster from three
conglomerate companies, where as
the existing poster doesn’t include
any.
