forms and conventions of real media
products?

2. Teaser Trailer
1) Our teaser trailer used Terms and conventions of a
real teaser trailer through the idea that we stuck with
the common convention of the distribution/production
company being shown at the beginning due to the idea
that it allows the audience to build a certain expectation
based on their past experience they had with the
company.
2) Showing the protagonist/main actor through the first
shot and soon allowed us to challenge the typical
convention of a real life teaser trailer due to the idea
that a majority of them do no show the main character
straight away due to the idea that it may not create as
much enigma as they may want especially for action
films
3) We challenged forms and conventions of a real
action teaser trailer by using a lack of close ups. We
were able to identify that real action teaser trailers
used a lot and a range of close up shots which we
lacked to see If we could challenge it by using a high
amount of medium shot which was very effective.
3) We were able to develop the conventions of a
teaser trailer through the aspect of suspense. We
developed the typical long shot of the protagonist
though the idea of him being darkened and not seen
properly allowing the audience to gain some sort of
unawareness on wherever the man is actually a good
character or not as in most action based teaser
trailer, it is very obvious for the audience to know
though the emotion he is providing. This was
developed due to the idea that no emotion on his face
can be perceived by the audience.
4) We used the convention of the text
appearing in our teaser trailer. This is
used to help the audience understand
what the film is more about without
giving too much away which allows
them to feel intrigued to watch the film.
This also fits in a lot with action films
which is typically used.
5) We developed the conventions and
forms of a teaser trailer as in a typical
action tease trailer, the shots are very
fast. Our group did very slow shots at
the start to develop the understanding
of the film. Having slower shots
allowed the audience to understand
the teaser trailer more which allowed
the whole storyline to be developed
3. Magazine cover
1) Our magazine cover used the basic conventions
which are used in typical ‘EMPIRE’ magazine for
example we stuck to the close up image of the
protagonist. This was used to allow the audience to
gain an idea of who the film really focuses on.
2) Our group stuck with the typical form of the ‘EMPIRE’
magazine through the same use of the title and the
positioning of it. We decided to stick with the use of colour
as it went with the colour theme of all of our branding. We
also decided to put the title of the magazine in the common
place that it is typically shown. We used this to allow the
audience acknowledge the type of magazine company that
would be portraying the film.
3) Our group challenged the real life ‘EMPIRE’
magazine by using a lot less taglines for the cover of
the magazine. We were able to understand that a
majority of ‘EMPIRE’ magazine covers have a lot of
taglines so we decided to challenge this convention
by using a little less. This was done as it would allow
the audience to feel intrigued into what else may be
in the magazine about the film that hasn’t already
been mentioned.
4) Our group developed the typical
convention and forms of an
‘EMPIRE’ magazine by adding quite
a distinctive background. The
backgrounds which tend to be used
by ‘EMPIRE’ are mostly quite basic
whilst our group decided to develop
this into making the background a
bit more interesting for them with
the use of money. This also allowed
the audience to get a little more
satisfaction with an idea into what
the film may be a bit more about.
4. Poster
1) Our group used the typical conventions and forms
of a poster through a range of ways for example the
main image used was showing the main actor which
is a typical convention that is used in a poster when
trying to promote a film. We used the lead actor as
the main image for the poster as it allowed the
audience have knowledge of who is playing the main
part on the film which may set a certain standard for
the person if they like the actor or not.
4) Our group used the typical
conventions of an poster through the
idea that we used all the review
quotes on the poster. This is
generally used on posters to try and
promote and advertise the film which
our group used.
.
2) Our group developed the typical conventions and
forms of a poster through only sticking to two
particular colours. When looking at posters, we were
able to identify that a mixture of colours that would
be used so that the poster would stand out. Our
group developed the idea of this by using two so the
audience would have an idea that whenever these
two particular colours come up, it involves or
signifies the film.
5) Our group challenged the typical
conventions of a poster by putting the title of
the film at the bottom. The title of film is
normally placed at the top of a poster but in
the case if our poster we wanted to challenge
and develop that through the idea of it being
placed at the bottom. This allowed the
audience to not just to view the title at a
different place but also for them to see it
clearer due to the use of colour.
3) Our group challenged the typical conventions
and forms of a poster due to the layout. When
researching we were able to come up with the idea
that the main image is typically set in the middle as
it where everyone will see and look first. Our group
challenged this through the idea that we placed it on
the left hand side to see if it would be as effective
of it was placed in the middle. This allowed the
audience not to directly focus on the left hand side
which gave the poster a developed and intriguing
effect.
