1 INT. OLD RUSTIC HOUSE - MORNING - 1
Stairs montage shots of ESME(10) running down an old set of
stairs where the credits appear and fade as she goes past
them. She sneaks into the main hallway (Main entrance)
towards the front door of the house.
ESME looks over both her shoulders before she runs to the
front door and opens it.
Suddenly, there is a shadow falling across her face, she
looks to the side of the door to see her MOTHER. Her hand
grips onto the door handle tight.
The (50)MOTHER is there in front of ESME. She leans in
towards ESME with a face void of emotion. The MOTHER’s hand
creeps around the door and holds it firmly.
MOTHER
(Venomously whispers)
You never learn, little one.
Inside. Now.
ESME flinches from her MOTHER’s words. She takes one last
look at the outside with a longing face but then turns to
her MOTHER, hesitates for a split second before bowing her
head and nodding.
CUTS TO...
2 EXT. HOUSE - MORNING - OUTSIDE THE FRONT DOOR 2
ESME and her MOTHER are still in the same position.
The MOTHER’s fingers can just be seen pushing the door
slowly closed. ESME looks up one final time to the outside
as the door shuts.
As the door finally shuts, the camera pulls back to a view
of the whole house.As this happens, the image turns into a
oil painting, with the title appearing in handwriting across
the screen, "HOLLOW". As the title fades, the camera tracks
out into a bedroom, the painting is above her bed.
3 INT. HOUSE - MORNING - BEDROOM 3
ESME is now older (25).
ESME in her bedroom,the walls are bare. Her bed has been
made perfectly, across her desk are scattered paint brushes
and canvases. There are no photos in the room.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 2.
She is wearing a knee-length pink dress. ESME is painting a
flower by the desk. There is a daily routine plan on the
wall in front of her as she paints.
(Daily routine: Making breakfast 9:00 (1hr), reading in
living room 10:30(1hr), etc.)
ESME stands up and turns towards her door where her MOTHER
is standing by the door in a long black dress.
ESME looks to her MOTHER as she takes a deep breath through
her nose.
CUTS TO...
4 INT. HOUSE - MORNING - HALLWAY 4
ESME and her MOTHER are linking arms as they walk down the
hallway. ESME appears quite uncomfortable while her MOTHER
looked calm and almost happy with a very pale complexion.
MIX...
5 INT. HOUSE - MORNING - LIVING ROOM 5
ESME is sitting on a Couch (knitting) as her MOTHER sits
next to her, reading.
MIX...
6 INT. HOUSE - MORNING - KITCHEN 6
ESME is sitting at a small table with a glass of water. The
camera then tracks to her side where her mother sitting at
the head of the table pouring tea into a cup.
MIX...
7 INT. HOUSE - MORNING - ATTIC 7
ESME starts cleaning in the attic, sorting out boxes. Her
MOTHER stands by the door with her arms folded, occasionally
looking at her watch.
MIX...
8 INT. HOUSE - THE NEXT DAY - MORNING - BEDROOM 8
ESME gets up from her bed. MOTHER is already at the door.
MIX...

9 INT. HOUSE - MORNING - LIVING ROOM 9
ESME is sitting on a Couch (knitting) as her MOTHER sits
next to her, reading.
MIX...
10 INT. HOUSE - MORNING/MIDDAY - KITCHEN 10
ESME is sitting at a small table drinking a glass of water.
All of a sudden, she stops drinking as she sees a photo on
the wall, it is of her (10) and her MOTHER linking arms and
looking genuinely happy in front of a car.
Cuts back to a wide shot of ESME and her MOTHER. Her eyes
flicker to her MOTHER but she is reading this time and does
not see the photo.
ESME looks back to the photo frame...
The kitchen counter is empty. The camera pans from the
counter around to ESME’s face.
She is deeply confused.
CUTS TO...
11 INT. HOUSE - MORNING - ATTIC 11
ESME starts cleaning in the attic, sorting out boxes. Her
MOTHER stands by the door with her arms folded, occasionally
looking at her watch.
MIX...
12 INT. HOUSE - MORNING - BEDROOM 12
ESME gets up from her bed. MOTHER is already at the door.
ESME is becoming more tired and frustrated.
MIX...
13 INT. HOUSE - MORNING - LIVING ROOM 13
ESME is sitting on a Couch (knitting) as her MOTHER sits
next to her, reading. ESME starts to get tired (sighs) from
knitting so she stops and looks up.
She notices a hospital tag on the table.
She glances at her MOTHER, she still doesn’t notice ESME but
then her MOTHER glances up at ESME.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 4.
She has a scowl on her face and nods towards her knitting
before quickly going back to reading.
ESME looks back to the coffee table and sees there is
nothing there. She quickly begins to knit again.
CUTS TO...
14 INT. HOUSE - MIDDAY - KITCHEN 14
ESME is sitting at a small table with a glass of water. The
camera then tracks to her side where her mother sitting at
the head of the table pouring tea into a cup.
MIX...
15 INT. HOUSE - MIDDAY - ATTIC 15
ESME starts cleaning in the attic, sorting out boxes. Her
MOTHER stands by the door with her arms folded, occasionally
looking at her watch.
MIX...
16 INT. HOUSE - MIDDAY - BEDROOM 16
ESME stays in bed. MOTHER is already at the door.
ESME is becoming more frustrated and paranoid at all her
surroundings.
ESME shakes her head at her MOTHER, not wanting to go around
the house that day. The MOTHER huffs and walks over to the
window and checks that it is locked.
ESME notices a stethoscope hanging around the MOTHER’s neck,
she blinks and it vanishes.
As the MOTHER walks back to the door, a black and white cut
out of a newspaper appears on the wall next to where her
routine schedule is. The heading reads, "FREAK CAR ACCIDENT
LEAVES MANY INJURED." Her MOTHER nods at ESME, ESME nods
back as her MOTHER locks the door behind her.
ESME then runs out of her bed to her desk looking for the
news article but finds nothing.
She sits down at her desk, pulls out her diary and writes
"This house is making me insane, making me see things. I
can’t stand this place anymore, I must get out. Tomorrow.
Love, Esme."
Closing the diary, she runs back to her bed.

FADES TO BLACK..
17 INT. HOUSE - MORNING - BEDROOM 17
ESME gets up from her bed. The MOTHER is already at the
door.
ESME is relatively happy.
CUTS TO...
18 INT. HOUSE - MIDDAY - LIVING ROOM 18
ESME is sitting on a Couch (knitting) as her MOTHER sits
next to her, reading.
CUTS TO...
19 INT. HOUSE - MIDDAY - KITCHEN 19
ESME is by the counter while her MOTHER reads a book.
ESME is making the tea, she looks over her shoulder and
finds her MOTHER not looking so she opens the cupboard in
front of her.
Medicine is in there, ESME takes some sleeping pills and
quickly drops them in the tea.
ESME is sitting at a small table with a glass of water. Her
mother is sitting at the head of the table (book set aside
on table) pouring tea into a cup and taking a sip.
The MOTHER then starts to feel sleepy and her heads starts
to hang as sleep begins to overcome her then her head
finally hits the table and she passes out on the table.
ESME looks straight ahead as she slowly gets up.
CUTS TO...
20 INT. HOUSE - MIDDAY - MAIN ENTRANCE 20
ESME stands in front of the door. She grabs the door handle
and opens the door.
FADES TO WHITE...

21 INT. ASYLUM - ROOM 21
ESME is now 50 years old.
Barely anything of real importance is in her room except
from a painting of the house is hanging by the bed.
As well as some knitting needles, a scarf and a diary on a
desk by the corner.
Above the desk are multiple news articles on a cork board
about a freak car accident where it says that the driver was
her MOTHER and ESME (10) was in the passenger seat. The
article reads that ESME had distracted her MOTHER while
driving and as a result collided with another vehicle,
killing everyone except ESME, who kept slipping in and out
of a coma.
ESME- is lying on her death bed, completely still. Her eyes
flutter open and she then pulls herself up from her bed,
looks around her and goes to the desk to gaze at the news
clippings. She gasps.
She rushes to make her way over to the door, she hesitates
then opens it to step through but before she does her feet
gave way.
FADES TO WHITE...
22 INT. OLD RUSTIC HOUSE - MORNING - MAIN ENTRANCE 22
ESME steps through as her younger self and is greeted with
the image of her MOTHER staring down at her.
Her MOTHER has her arms folded with a smirk on her face.
MOTHER
Back so soon.
FADES TO BLACK...

  • 1. 1 INT. OLD RUSTIC HOUSE - MORNING - 1 Stairs montage shots of ESME(10) running down an old set of stairs where the credits appear and fade as she goes past them. She sneaks into the main hallway (Main entrance) towards the front door of the house. ESME looks over both her shoulders before she runs to the front door and opens it. Suddenly, there is a shadow falling across her face, she looks to the side of the door to see her MOTHER. Her hand grips onto the door handle tight. The (50)MOTHER is there in front of ESME. She leans in towards ESME with a face void of emotion. The MOTHER’s hand creeps around the door and holds it firmly. MOTHER (Venomously whispers) You never learn, little one. Inside. Now. ESME flinches from her MOTHER’s words. She takes one last look at the outside with a longing face but then turns to her MOTHER, hesitates for a split second before bowing her head and nodding. CUTS TO... 2 EXT. HOUSE - MORNING - OUTSIDE THE FRONT DOOR 2 ESME and her MOTHER are still in the same position. The MOTHER’s fingers can just be seen pushing the door slowly closed. ESME looks up one final time to the outside as the door shuts. As the door finally shuts, the camera pulls back to a view of the whole house.As this happens, the image turns into a oil painting, with the title appearing in handwriting across the screen, "HOLLOW". As the title fades, the camera tracks out into a bedroom, the painting is above her bed. 3 INT. HOUSE - MORNING - BEDROOM 3 ESME is now older (25). ESME in her bedroom,the walls are bare. Her bed has been made perfectly, across her desk are scattered paint brushes and canvases. There are no photos in the room. (CONTINUED)
  • 2. CONTINUED: 2. She is wearing a knee-length pink dress. ESME is painting a flower by the desk. There is a daily routine plan on the wall in front of her as she paints. (Daily routine: Making breakfast 9:00 (1hr), reading in living room 10:30(1hr), etc.) ESME stands up and turns towards her door where her MOTHER is standing by the door in a long black dress. ESME looks to her MOTHER as she takes a deep breath through her nose. CUTS TO... 4 INT. HOUSE - MORNING - HALLWAY 4 ESME and her MOTHER are linking arms as they walk down the hallway. ESME appears quite uncomfortable while her MOTHER looked calm and almost happy with a very pale complexion. MIX... 5 INT. HOUSE - MORNING - LIVING ROOM 5 ESME is sitting on a Couch (knitting) as her MOTHER sits next to her, reading. MIX... 6 INT. HOUSE - MORNING - KITCHEN 6 ESME is sitting at a small table with a glass of water. The camera then tracks to her side where her mother sitting at the head of the table pouring tea into a cup. MIX... 7 INT. HOUSE - MORNING - ATTIC 7 ESME starts cleaning in the attic, sorting out boxes. Her MOTHER stands by the door with her arms folded, occasionally looking at her watch. MIX... 8 INT. HOUSE - THE NEXT DAY - MORNING - BEDROOM 8 ESME gets up from her bed. MOTHER is already at the door. MIX...
  • 3. 3. 9 INT. HOUSE - MORNING - LIVING ROOM 9 ESME is sitting on a Couch (knitting) as her MOTHER sits next to her, reading. MIX... 10 INT. HOUSE - MORNING/MIDDAY - KITCHEN 10 ESME is sitting at a small table drinking a glass of water. All of a sudden, she stops drinking as she sees a photo on the wall, it is of her (10) and her MOTHER linking arms and looking genuinely happy in front of a car. Cuts back to a wide shot of ESME and her MOTHER. Her eyes flicker to her MOTHER but she is reading this time and does not see the photo. ESME looks back to the photo frame... The kitchen counter is empty. The camera pans from the counter around to ESME’s face. She is deeply confused. CUTS TO... 11 INT. HOUSE - MORNING - ATTIC 11 ESME starts cleaning in the attic, sorting out boxes. Her MOTHER stands by the door with her arms folded, occasionally looking at her watch. MIX... 12 INT. HOUSE - MORNING - BEDROOM 12 ESME gets up from her bed. MOTHER is already at the door. ESME is becoming more tired and frustrated. MIX... 13 INT. HOUSE - MORNING - LIVING ROOM 13 ESME is sitting on a Couch (knitting) as her MOTHER sits next to her, reading. ESME starts to get tired (sighs) from knitting so she stops and looks up. She notices a hospital tag on the table. She glances at her MOTHER, she still doesn’t notice ESME but then her MOTHER glances up at ESME. (CONTINUED)
  • 4. CONTINUED: 4. She has a scowl on her face and nods towards her knitting before quickly going back to reading. ESME looks back to the coffee table and sees there is nothing there. She quickly begins to knit again. CUTS TO... 14 INT. HOUSE - MIDDAY - KITCHEN 14 ESME is sitting at a small table with a glass of water. The camera then tracks to her side where her mother sitting at the head of the table pouring tea into a cup. MIX... 15 INT. HOUSE - MIDDAY - ATTIC 15 ESME starts cleaning in the attic, sorting out boxes. Her MOTHER stands by the door with her arms folded, occasionally looking at her watch. MIX... 16 INT. HOUSE - MIDDAY - BEDROOM 16 ESME stays in bed. MOTHER is already at the door. ESME is becoming more frustrated and paranoid at all her surroundings. ESME shakes her head at her MOTHER, not wanting to go around the house that day. The MOTHER huffs and walks over to the window and checks that it is locked. ESME notices a stethoscope hanging around the MOTHER’s neck, she blinks and it vanishes. As the MOTHER walks back to the door, a black and white cut out of a newspaper appears on the wall next to where her routine schedule is. The heading reads, "FREAK CAR ACCIDENT LEAVES MANY INJURED." Her MOTHER nods at ESME, ESME nods back as her MOTHER locks the door behind her. ESME then runs out of her bed to her desk looking for the news article but finds nothing. She sits down at her desk, pulls out her diary and writes "This house is making me insane, making me see things. I can’t stand this place anymore, I must get out. Tomorrow. Love, Esme." Closing the diary, she runs back to her bed.
  • 5. 5. FADES TO BLACK.. 17 INT. HOUSE - MORNING - BEDROOM 17 ESME gets up from her bed. The MOTHER is already at the door. ESME is relatively happy. CUTS TO... 18 INT. HOUSE - MIDDAY - LIVING ROOM 18 ESME is sitting on a Couch (knitting) as her MOTHER sits next to her, reading. CUTS TO... 19 INT. HOUSE - MIDDAY - KITCHEN 19 ESME is by the counter while her MOTHER reads a book. ESME is making the tea, she looks over her shoulder and finds her MOTHER not looking so she opens the cupboard in front of her. Medicine is in there, ESME takes some sleeping pills and quickly drops them in the tea. ESME is sitting at a small table with a glass of water. Her mother is sitting at the head of the table (book set aside on table) pouring tea into a cup and taking a sip. The MOTHER then starts to feel sleepy and her heads starts to hang as sleep begins to overcome her then her head finally hits the table and she passes out on the table. ESME looks straight ahead as she slowly gets up. CUTS TO... 20 INT. HOUSE - MIDDAY - MAIN ENTRANCE 20 ESME stands in front of the door. She grabs the door handle and opens the door. FADES TO WHITE...
  • 6. 6. 21 INT. ASYLUM - ROOM 21 ESME is now 50 years old. Barely anything of real importance is in her room except from a painting of the house is hanging by the bed. As well as some knitting needles, a scarf and a diary on a desk by the corner. Above the desk are multiple news articles on a cork board about a freak car accident where it says that the driver was her MOTHER and ESME (10) was in the passenger seat. The article reads that ESME had distracted her MOTHER while driving and as a result collided with another vehicle, killing everyone except ESME, who kept slipping in and out of a coma. ESME- is lying on her death bed, completely still. Her eyes flutter open and she then pulls herself up from her bed, looks around her and goes to the desk to gaze at the news clippings. She gasps. She rushes to make her way over to the door, she hesitates then opens it to step through but before she does her feet gave way. FADES TO WHITE... 22 INT. OLD RUSTIC HOUSE - MORNING - MAIN ENTRANCE 22 ESME steps through as her younger self and is greeted with the image of her MOTHER staring down at her. Her MOTHER has her arms folded with a smirk on her face. MOTHER Back so soon. FADES TO BLACK...
