4. Actors names written across the top of the poster in red so they stand out more
when the back ground is black and audience will recognize the well known names.
The main image is a low angle, full shot of actor Elizabeth Billson (Sammie)
focusing deeply on the camera. This image was chosen to give audience a sense of
creepy especially in her smile, as well as hinting Sammie seems to be know some
secrets. The darkened surrounding background and a highlight of Sammie has
been done to create the connection that she is the only one knowing the truth.
The tagline I have used its from Sammie dialogue. It gives audience an enigma why
she would say that and let them to figure it out in the cinema. Also I’ve used sky
blue to be the colour of the tagline, it gives audience a feeling she is a very cool
person and try to make the sentence more cold blooded.
The credits I have been created is refer back to some actual professional poster and
try to do it similar. These have been put in white because in terms of what the
audience needs to know, the producer credits are not essential information.
The release date has been written in light purple brown because I don’t want the
release date steal the movie title and actors name thunder. So in stead of putting a
sharp colour, I put a similar colour matching with the background colour.
The social media section is for audience who wants to keep up to dates with the
movie and interact with actors and crews
6. Page number in top right hand corner to give it an authentic,
'magazine look’.
A sharp yellow heading direct to audience what’s here about.
Large main image taken from the main feature. These have been put
into the review to get the audience a taste of what they will see if they
decide to watch the film, like a trailer. It also with a blue lighting which
will give audience a sense of mysterious.
The title of the film and the rating are used foremost text and red
colour, so audience will naturally be the first thing to attract them.
I have put these information here so audience will know when they
can see it and what genre is it.
Content of the article talks about what did director achieve last year
and well spot on finding new faces actors.
I have put a little discount so the reader of magazine can feel they got
advantage and increase both side magazine and film box-office. Also
if there are any problem, they can find the contact in the website.
Date and name of magazine to give it an authentic finish.
8. The most common link shown between the film poster and the magazine review is that it features a photograph that a
protagonist or an antagonist. For example, the film poster features a long shot of Sammie- Elizabeth Billson which was
taken just after shooting ‘HOME’. I used this shot of our because I thought it works well in creating sense of enigma for
the audience before the audience seen it.They might asking question like who is she? Who she looks so creepy? Why she
is smiling in a dark area? What she had done? Etc…This links to the photo which I have screen grabbed from the film and
used in the magazine article. I chosen the scenes where Jason walking to Sammie room find her. I chosen these from the
film because in origally there are already blue lighting effect on it and moreover the facial expressional that Jason had is
fantastic. He is full of angry, which can attract audience squirm in their seats while watching and ask why he is angry,
where there is some blue filter feels so creepy?
Another key link is lighting. In the poster, I was referring to Annabelle(2014) as the poster they made was very simple
only a doll sitting in the middle but when everyone seen it, they all feel very scared. I was trying to make this feeling too,
so I used Photoshop to turn the photo darker, but only Sammie emit little bit of light, like a X-ray. For the magazine
article, I used blue lighting photo and black background for the content. This denotation of the blue lighting connotes a
sense of cold and mysterious. To match back the mysterious picture, I choices a black background colour to connotes
thriller and creepy. The last key link is the words “HOME” are printed large and used colour of red. This has been done to
ensure that the film title is noticeable to the audience. I used red colour because both background are a bit dark so to
attract audience attention, it will be good to us e some bright colour – red. Moreover at the end of the story, Sammie
killed his dad Jason so this also a connotes bloody.
All of these links to help to sell my short film because when you see these similarities, for example the title,
the actor or the style of photography. All these can help audience to remind, these are the same film
advertising
10. The Unique selling point (USP) of my short film, film poster and magazine article are :
• The narrative in general – it is very uncommon that our film didn’t have any protagonist which is against the
conventions as Sammie is a little young girl and the audience might think she is a protagonist.
• Being shot on location (Flat) - it is very lucky that our teammates is living in a flat and he could let us borrow his
flat for the whole day.Which make us less pressure on the time limit.
• The USP of the magazine article - first is a left top yellow tag to attract audience attention. Second is this film has
been rated 4 stars out of 5. Third is a little discount (buy one get one free) for the Star Magazine reader. These all
links will help to raise the films popularity because audience will be excited for the discount as they feel got
advantages and will tell all his/her family and friends to go cinema watch this not rated too bad film 4stars out of
5 together.
• The USP of the poster is, audience may feel scared after watching the poster and stay in their heart memorable.
All of these unique selling point help to sell my final product because having features that other products don’t have
makes my film different to others. Having a unique selling point which means you less or never seen all this
convention before and make my film unique and attract audience to research it and buy ticket to watch it.
12. First, I think the final film itself would be very effective in the real world. This is because I think the combination of
two main character are villain and at the very last, Sammie stand out say she is a villain too, which audience wouldn’t
realize at the very start. I think this is the main feature that our film is a thriller. Also I think the film was out together
brilliantly (edited by me-Kristy Ng) which makes it all the more professional looking. I think the sound, both diegetic
and non diegetic, including the sound effects, incidental music and voiceover work brilliantly in creating enigma
especially in the last scene, the long shot of the building and upcoming some credits and Sammie voiceover came up
– which is when she was doing a interview with David. I think the film poster works well in establishing this also, as it
correctly portrays Sammie is a creepy and wicked character. I think the dark colour on the poster create the
impression to audience that she is sort of a villain. Also the red film title connotes bloody which works well
considering that the film is so far is about harming people or killing people., which also bring Sammie to know she is
a bloody kids. One thing I would possibly change about the film poster given the chance is add a little prop- knief to
let Sammie hold it while she is sitting in the chair and smile. As I think its seems a bit lonely and dry to let audience
to think. Finally, in terms if the magazine article, I think it works very well in selling the the final product to the
audience. Firstly, it speaks well about the actual film and rated well. This instantly tell the audience this is worth to
watch as our direct which had a Oscar award last year used a new actor which audience never seem her before. This
fresh face actor let audience feels fresh and increase there interest to go and figure out her. I think the page number,
author name, magazine name and which episode create an authentic magazine look, which goes to make my article
look all the way more look like a real and in turn convincing for the reader.
