INT. HALLWAY – NIGHT
CAMERA TRACKING through a dark hallway
Lights are flickering as we go down the hallway; the titles and
openings appear scratched into a silver metal door that is at the
end of the hallway.
INT. SURGERY ROOM – NIGHT
Lights begin to flicker, revealing flashes of light in a dark
room.
PANS OVER numerous tools
The tools are covered in dry blood.
QUICK CUT TO
Large pair of hands appears in the frame, wearing a pair of white
gloves, cleaning a scalpel (articulately), they then drop the
scalpel.
INT.ORPHANAGE - DAY
MERGE/GRAPHIC MATCH with the social worker
Picking up a pen
The SOCIAL WORKER picks up a pen from the floor and walks out of
the frame, showing MADELINE at the background. She’s wearing a
baggy top and jeans with a pair of scruffy trainers.
MADELINE’s swings her legs while she sits on wooden bench. She
fidgets with her hands (nervously).
SOCIAL WORKER
(Quietly)
“She’s been through a lot”.
Slowly PANS UP TO MADELINE’S face
MADELINE is expressionless as she stands up from her seat and
walks over to the SOCIAL WORKER and her MUM and DAD.
CUT TO
SOCIAL WORKER
(Enthusiastically)
“I’m sure you’ll love your new home Madeline”.
MUM
(Happily)
“Yeah, honey your bedrooms all set, come on you’ll love it”.

The MUM squeezes MADELINE’s shoulder as they begin to walk out of
the orphanage.
ZOOMS INTO MADELINE’S impassive face
SOCIAL WORKER
(Quietly in the background)
“Bye Madeline”.
FADE OUT TO
EXT. HOUSE – DAY
MUM
(Excited, soft tone)
“This is your new room”
SOUNDBRIDGE
CUT TO
INT. MADELINES ROOM.AFTERNOON
MUM "This is your new room"(Looks at MADELINE and smiles
comfortingly)
MUM and DAD show MADELINE into her new room, they stand behind her
as she looks into the small, cozy room presented in front of her.
The bed is neatly done up, decorated with white and grey cushions.
Dark and light grey stripes fill the wall while books; a mirror
and small box make up the shelves.
DAD "Why don't you get settled while we prepare lunch”? He places
his hands on MADELINES shoulders and squeezes it softly.
MUM and DAD both smile at her and slowly walk out of the frame.
TRACKS MADELINE into her room
MADELINE steps into the room and turns her head to each side of
the room, taking everything in, she begins to look around. She
walks over to the lights and turns the lights off. She stares into
the space in front of her, and then turns them off again. Madeline
does this twice.
CUT TO MADELINE observing some items on her dresser
She picks up a small mirror, turning it around curiously. She
stares at her reflection innocently.

PAN OVER the items on the dresser
CUT TO MADELINE
MADELINE gently flicks through a novel.
CUT TO MADELINE
MADELINE gradually sits on the floor; she struggles to fold her
legs as she looks up at some unpacked boxes in front of her.
Peeping out of the cardboard boxes are some of her belongings.
She begins to pick some items out, and then suddenly stops.
Staring Intensely into the box she sluggishly puts what she’s
holding, down, and then slowly brings out a ragged doll.
CUTS TO TATTERED DOLL
The fabric doll is stained and scruffy.
CUTS TO MADELINE
MADELINE closes her eyes tightly.

MADELINES POV
FLASHBACK
INT. SURGERY ROOM.DAY
A pair of large hands in white gloves articulately and slowly
wipes down a surgical scalpel, while some sewing equipment sits at
the back.

BACK TO PRESENT DAY
INT.MADELINES ROOM. AFTERNOON
MADELINE grimaces as her eyes twitch while they’re tightly shut.

FLASHBACK
INT.SURGERY ROOM. DAY
White surgical headlights turn on, illuminating the room.

BACK TO PRESENT DAY
INT.MADELINES ROOM. AFTERNOON
MADELINE begins to fidget with her hair, tugging at it (in
frustration).
FLASHBACK
INT. SURGERY. ROOM. DAY
MADELINE’s feet are being tied down as she reluctantly shakes her
legs, trying to escape the rope that is holding her down.
QUICK CUT
INT. BEDROOM-DAY
MADELINE leans forward in an attempt to gain control. She shakes
her head vigorously, attempting to push away these daunting
memories.
QUICK CUT TO
FLASHBACK
INT.SURGERY ROOM.DAY
TRACK the doll falling from MADELINE’s hands
MADELINE hands fall by the sides of the surgical table, her
fingers open and the small doll falls from her fingertips.
BACK TO PRESENT DAY
INT, MADELINES ROOM. DAY
Tears begin to fall from MADELINES face as she scratches at her
face (irritatingly) and breaths heavily.
FLASHBACK
INT.SURGERY ROOM-DAY

The bottom of MADELINE’s white dressing gown is stained with fresh
deep red blood.

BACK TO PRESENT DAY
INT.MADELINES ROOM.AFTERNOON
MADELINE cries (in defeat)
FLASHBACK
INT.SURGERY ROOM.DAY
The doll lies on the floor near thick drops of deep red blood. A
drop of blood falls onto the doll.
BACK TO PRESENT DAY
INT. MADELINES ROOM.DAY
MADELINE’s hands clutch onto the doll (forcefully) as the doll
lies on her lap facing upwards. Her breaths become quieter. She
opens her eyes calmly and stares down at her doll. She then smiles
at her doll (creepily).
CUT TO
EXT.OUTSIDE-DAY
Leaves fall of some trees to show time change while some text
fades in stating “A year later”.
FADE IN
INT. PASSAGE-NIGHT
MADELINE is walking down the stairs to get a glass of water during
the night. She’s wearing a black pyjama top and trouser. She hears
her parents whispering and peeps her face through a small gap at
the kitchen door and listens to what they say.
MUM

“-We need to prepare for SAMANTHA coming home then”. (Whispers to
the DAD).
DAD
“Trust me we’re prepared enough, we’ve had harder -”. (Speaks
quietly).
Can hear MADELINE rushing up the stairs and leaving mid sentence
from DAD.
FADE BLACK
1. INT. DINING ROOM – DAY
MADELINE enters the dining room; she heads down to her seat while
we see her MUM come into serve food on her plate (Smiling). She’s
wearing an apron around her waist with her hair tied in a loose
bun. The atmosphere is happy and light.
MUM
“By the way darling your fathers caught up at work so he won’t be
joining us for dinner today, so it’ll just be us tonight”(smiles).
MADELINE looks up from her plate to her mum (nods)
Her MUM puts the plate in the middle of the table and sits down at
the table near MADELINE so they’re facing each other. She prepares
to tell her something serious and urgent. Her facial expression is
worried and she wrings her fingers together. She turns to face
MADELINE’S reaction to the news. (Sighs and takes a deep breathe)
She begins to stir some hot chocolate in a cup as she says
“Darling... I have big news to tell you...”
CUTS TO MADELINE
MADELINE looks up from her plate of dinner taking in her MOTHER’S
nervous appearance, focusing on her face and reaction throughout
(nods).
MUM “You’re going to be a big sister!” (Claps hands) cheesy
FLASHBACK
INT.SURGERY ROOM. DAY
MERGES WITH THE MUM STRRING HER
HOT CHOCLATE TO THE MAN SCRUBBING A MEASURING
JUG

The MAN swirls the bloody scalpel in a measuring jug in a circular
motion creating a pink tinge in the water.
MADELINE freezes in her seat, eyes wide. She stares at her MUM
(intensely) not giving anything away. We see her fork stabbed into
her food.
MUM reassures MADELINE, “It’ll be great! You can finally have
someone to play with you and your doll! She’s going to fit in so
well and you won’t be lonely anymore!”
CUTS TO MADELINE
MADELINE quickly glances at her doll. Her doll sits at the top of
the dresser at the dining room against the wall.
2. INT. STAIRS – DAY
MADELINE walks up the stairs dragging her doll by the hand. The
doll flops by her side. MADELINES head is looking down (intensely)
at the doll.
FLASHBACK
INT. SURGICAL ROOM.DAY
A MAN enters the surgical room holding the doll in his hand.
BACK TO PRESENT DAY
MADELINE (breathes harshly).
3. INT. MADELINES BEDROOM – DAY
MADELINE walks to her dressing table rummaging through her
wardrobe looking for something, she (smiles) suggesting she found
what she was looking for and brings out a paper and pen scribbling
words down.
MADELINE (smiles) and walks towards her door to leave.
4. INT. NEW CHILDS BEDROOM - DAY
CUT TO ENTERING NEW CHILDS ROOM
FLASHBACK
MAN picks up the doll from the floor and places it into MADELINE
hand while she sits, strapped to the gurney.

MADELINE (smirking) walks towards the new bed placing the doll on
the bed and the note between its legs.
ZOOMS INTO NOTE - REVELAING WORDS What
are the words?
CUT TO MADELINE WALKING OUT OF THE ROOM
MADELINE walks out of the door, leaving it open to watch the doll
as though she’s conveying a message to it. MADELINE then looks
into the camera and smiles sinisterly. Her eyes are darker and
slit to the camera.
FADES TO A BLACK SCREEN
