FADE IN:
EXT. OUTSIDE OF HOUSE - MORNING
Establishing shot of the house with MAISIE facing inside
the door and AUTUMN standing facing outwards, talking to
one another. There is a suitcase to the side of them.
They hug then start talking.
AUTUMN
I’m going to miss you.
MAISIE
I’m going to miss you too. Everything
will be okay.
AUTUMN
(quieter, pulls away from hug) I hope
so.
MAISIE
It will be!
A car horn is pressed in the background indicating the
sibling to leave.
MAISIE
(walking away) I’ll see you soon it
won’t be long.
AUTUMN
Bye, (whispering) bye.
Fades to black and title appears.
FADE IN:
INT. BEDROOM - MORNING
Autumn is sitting on bed, invested in a book. The
lighting is dark for the time of day, as her curtains are
4. 4
half shut and she has fairy lights on. She is wearing
comfy, slouchy clothes and her hair is done messily.
The doorbell rings. Autumn looks up from her book
suspiciously. She gets up and walks down to the front
door.
INT. FRONT HALLWAY - CONTINUING
She opens the door and looks down at the floor. There is
a box addressed to her. She picks it up and carries it to
her room, picking up scissors on her way.
INT. BEDROOM - CONTINUING
She sits down on her bed and starts to open the box by
cutting the tape with scissors. She slowly opens it up
and takes out the contents. The girl places the toy next
to the box and picks up the note to read.
THE SIBLING (VO)
Hi, I walked past a store and saw this.
It instantly reminded me of you so I
thought you could take care of it while
we’re away. Thinking of you, Maisie.
A smile appears on Autumn’s face. She is touched by the
kindness and thoughtfulness of the gift. She picks it
back up and stares and smiles at it.
She stands up and puts it on top of her drawer.
INT. HALLWAY AND EXT. OUTSIDE HOUSE - AFTERNOON
Autumn walks down the stairs while folding the cardboard
box. She opens the front door fully. She walks down to
the paper bin and as she places the box into it, the
front door slams shut. Her head violently turns towards
the door. She walks back towards the door and tries to
open it. It does not open so she bends to get the spare
key from underneath the doormat. She opens the door,
shuts it behind her and locks it.
She looks around to see if anything was moved or had been
taken, but everything was the same. She looks towards the
5. 5
stairs and sees the gift sitting on one of the steps. She
stares at it questioningly but decides that she must’ve
brought it down without remembering.
She picks it up and carries it with her into the dining
room.
CROSS DISSOLVE IN:
INT. UPSTAIRS HALLWAY - MORNING
Autumn walks down the stairs, rubbing her eyes as she
just woke up. She is wearing a dressing gown and her hair
is down. As she takes the last step down, she hears the
tap from the bathroom be turned on and water running. She
slightly acknowledges the sound but still carries on
walking forward.
INT. LIVING ROOM - EVENING
Autumn is sat on the sofa with a couple of blankets
surrounding her. She is watching TV. Her phone is on the
coffee table in front of the sofa. It starts ringing. A
smile appears on her face and she picks it up. It is her
sister ringing.
AUTUMN
Hello. (Gap while listening to the other
person speak) Everything’s fine here.
How’s the trip?
There is a stream of loud knocks at the front door.
AUTUMN
Wait. Wait. Wait. Did you hear that?
(silence while knocking is repeated)
(whispering) Who’s going to be here at
this time? (pause) What should I do?
6. 6
She quietly gets up and tiptoes out into the hallway. She
leaves her phone on the arm of the sofa.
She looks towards the door and the toy is sitting on the
ground in-front of it. She looks at it questioningly. She
picks it up and walks slowly and quietly up the stairs.
She opens one of the rooms doors and places the top in a
chair. She gets some cello tape and tapes it there. She
leaves and shuts the door on her way out.
INT. BEDROOM - MORNING
Autumn slowly makes her way out of bed. She sits on the
corner of her bed and puts some socks on. She gets up and
walks out the room. As she passes past the door with the
toy in, she slightly opens the door and peaks in. Her
face has a calm expression as she re-shuts the door
implying it is still sitting there.
INT. DINING ROOM - MIDDAY
Autumn is sat at a dining room table doing revision.
There is a glass of juice and some food on a plate next
to her textbooks. There is a scream from upstairs. She
turns to look towards the door but ignores it as the
house becomes silent again. A few seconds pass and there
is another scream which becomes muffled. She gets up and
runs upstairs.
INT. HALLWAY - CONTINUING
As soon as she gets up to the hallway, she looks straight
at the door she put the toy in. The door is wide open,
but she cannot see into the room as it’s dark. She slowly
wonders in and turns on the light switch. She is staring
straight at Maisie who is tied to the chair just like the
toy. She looks terrified. Autumn runs for door, but the
door slams shut, and the lights go off. Autumn screams.
Autumn has found the door handle and is trying to open
it. The light comes back on and the toy is sitting back
in the chair. She looks at it for a second then turns
back to try the door. Everything goes black.
7. 7
INT. DOWNSTAIRS OF HOUSE - MORNING
Long still shots of an empty feeling living room, dining
room and hallway.
INT. UPSTAIRS - CONTINUING
Long shots of the upstairs hallway and stairs then the
outside of the door where the toy last was. The door is
open, and you can see Autumn tied up to the chair. The
door slowly shuts.
