2. INT.BEDROOM.DAY
Staring up at a blank ceiling is KEVIN a spotty faced
teenager with a cut lip and bruising on the side of his
face.
O/S
The sound of kids playing and
laughing
As Kevin lies down we start to hear the sound of a piano
playing it gradually gets louder
KEVIN
ohh fuck
INT. PIANO ROOM. AFTERNOON
Kevin plays the piano. He gets distracted by something
outside the window and stops playing.
His mum dressed in a trouser suit, with a crutch walks
slowly in the room.
MUM
Why have you stopped?
Kevin doesn’t respond. He turns and looks up at his mum.
There is a beat..of defiance. The Mum looks back sternly.
Kevin starts to play again.
INT. KITCHEN. EVENING.
Mum, Dad and Kevin are eating dinner. Silence. Sound of
cutlery.
MUM
Kevin stopped playing today.
Dad looks up at mum
DAD
Doesn’t Kevin realise he has a
showcase
MUM
clearly not.

INT. KEVIN’S BEDROOM. LATE EVENING.
Kevin stares out of the window. His reflection can be vagley
seen in the window. Across the street, Kevin can see a young
teenager waiting at the bus stop. He is soon joined by
another who greets him, and then a third person. Kevin
watches carefully. The 3 friends greet each other and laugh.
A red bus arrives. They get on. Bus leaves. Bus stop is left
deserted.
INT. KITCHEN. MORNING.
His mother is waiting for Kevin in the kitchen with his
breakfast waiting.
Kevin starts to eat his toast but is quickly rushed to the
piano room. He starts to play.
EXT. ROAD. MORNING.
Kevin is walking, dressed in his school uniform.
LUCIE
Wait up!
Lucie a similarly aged girl in school uniform catches up
with Kevin.
You alright?
KEVIN
(downbeat)
Yeah
They carry on walking with very little said.
LUCIE
Were going bowling tonight. Wanna
come?
Kevin turns and looks at Lucie who smiles invitingly.
KEVIN
I can’t. I’ve...
LUCIE
Practice?
They carry on walking. Lucie looks up at Kevin who smiles.
Look, I’ve gotta go.
Luice starts to run off.

I’d really like you to come. It’s
at the odeon.
INT. PIANO ROOM.
Kevin is playing the piano.
Mum walks in. She watches Kevin a while then starts to leave
the room. Kevin stops playing. His hands shake slightly.
KEVIN
I’m going out tonight mum.
INT. BEDROOM.
Kevin is getting ready to go out. He seems excited.
The sound of a door locking can be heard.
Kevin goes to the door, and tries to open it. It is locked.
EXT. CORRIDOR. EVENING.
Mum puts a key in her pocket.
MUM
With talent, comes responsibility.
She walks away from the door.
INT. KITCHEN. MORNING.
A plate of breakfast is neatly placed on the kitchen table.
Kevin sits down.
MUM
I want you home. No later than 5.
EXT. ROAD. MORNING.
Kevin is walking to school. He is looking around for Lucie.
She is on the other side of the road.
Kevin smiles at her when they catch each others sight.
Lucie does not respond and carries on walking.
5. 4.
INT. CLASSROOM. AFTERNOON.
Close up of a clock reading 4:30.
Kevin is looking up at the clock.
The sound of students leaving the school can be heard.
Slowly silence descends.
Kevin starts to drum his fingers. He looks down at them and
drums faster, then stops.
He lifts his hands up.
Kevin gets up and goes towards the door. He opens it slowly
and places one hand on the door frame.
He grabs the handle and shuts the door firmly, crushing his
hand.
INT. HOSPITAL. EVENING
Kevin sits in a waiting room with a slight grin on his face.
His hands are covered in bandages.
Mum walks in.
MUM
What have you done!
