E-mentoring is a means of providing a
guided mentoring relationship
using online software or email. It allows
participants to communicate at their own
convenience and beyond time zones since it
eliminates the need for them to be in the same
physical location. Also known as online
mentoring

To blend e-mentoring to different types of mentoring

4. Blending One to One and Situational Mentoring with E-Mentoring
One to One Mentoring Skill building Use of video conferencing and taking presentations and
updates from time to time. It can be done by setting
deadlines, reminders and to do list from time to time and
update it regularly. Further recording of face to face
session can be used to show the progress or development.
Situational Mentoring Specific Skill Mentees along with mentor can use situation analysis.
Simulation (e-mode) can be used where mentee takes the
decision and mentors track it. Further mentor can do hand
holding where ever required.

5. Blending Career & Reverse Mentoring with E-Mentoring
Career Mentoring Career Planning This can be done with multi approach. Mentor can first,
through virtual connect try to understand the interest of
mentees. Later can track his/her performance and/ or
conduct online aptitude test. Followed by which mentor
can do the presentation and make mentee understand
the skills required. Both mentor and mentee can finally
collectively take a decision using SWOC analysis
Reverse Mentoring Use of technology This is the most required as faculty members can be
mentored by the students. E-mentoring can be effective
by screen sharing and students and guide faculty
members step to step on how to use technology.

6. Blending Group and Peer to Peer Mentoring with E-Mentoring
Group Mentoring Structured Group
Activities
Virtual groups with mentors have biggest
advantage as obstacle of face to face due to
some or the other reason can be overcome.
Further online activities of group can be
carried through e-mentoring.
Peer to Peer Mentoring Transfer of
expertise
E-mentoring of peer to peer can lead to
mutual benefits as expertise in terms of soft
skills and hard skills can be now easily
transferred through online and can be
tracked too.

7. Conclusion
Millennial and Post millennial are comfortable
with technology to such an extent that they have
substituted the personal or face to face
interactions to a greater extent with e-connect.
Further explosion of social media fulfills their
social needs and mentoring is one of it. Moving
to Education 4.0 and use of Artificial Intelligence
will make mentoring more effective by using
data and psychographic profiles.

8. Recommendation
• Institute should promote e-mentoring irrespective of Covid or no-Covid.
• Reverse mentoring through e-mode should be promoted as it will help in
making mentor-mentee relationship more strong due to mutual
dependency.
• E-mentoring should be used for all the mentioned mentoring.
• Development of software customizing to the needs of mentees can make
e-mentoring more effective.
• Collaborations can be promoted through E-mentoring.
• Willingness of Gen Y or Gen Z to accept e-mentoring is must.
