1. Question 2: How does your media
product represent particular social
groups?
2. In my complete magazine I chose to
use the young representation of a
teenage girl, to fall in line with my
target audience. Added to this I used
appropriate Images. For example,
using a model that is female works
for the purpose of the male gaze
(Mulvey) to attract a male audience,
especially with my model in question
being dressed in ‘current/edgy’
clothing with dark makeup.
3. Front Cover
When doing my research, I found women
used in magazines were often over
sexualised or styled to appeal to the
theory of ‘the male gaze’.
For this convention I had my model wear
bold makeup, in a fitted black dress with
a shirt over the shoulders. As I controlled
the magazine I did not want to over
sexualize my model therefore I used
images which – I think – represent her as
powerful and stunning, showing a
positive representation of women.
4. Contents
The layout of my contents page is
representative of the social group it’s aimed
toward as it is very spaced out and to-the-
point.
Because it is so structured it allows the reader
to find everything easily and therefore their
attention is kept, whilst keeping the layout
visually pleasing. Conforming to the
stereotype of teenagers having a short
attention span.
5. For my final pieces I used a
mixture of mid shots and close
ups. I decided to use just one
model as it brings more
attention to them as an artist
and also allows all the focus to
be on one point on the page.
Using a mid shot on the double
page spread fit best for me as I
believe that because she was
being interviewed I wanted a
relaxed shot of the model to
make the reader feel as though it
was a very stripped back
interview, almost an exclusive
look into her career/life.

6. Audience Response
• I think the use of a welcoming colour scheme
and photo’s capturing the welcoming air from
my model would entice readers, especially
those falling into the 16-25 gradient (as shown
in my focus group).
• The magazine advertises its passion in up and
coming artists and local gigs, another
hobby/passion that I believe would be shared
by these ages.
