1. How does your media
products represent
particular social
groups?
2. CLOTHES
I researched some popular pop music magazines and discovered that the main colours
were mostly black and white. The clothes tend to be smart/casual which tends to inspire
the audiences to want to go out and purchase similar outfits to be able to be like that. I
have made it so my model is just either wearing a top and a skirt or a top and jeans, this
means that if the audience would want to buy it then it’s most likely within their price range
and inspires them, meaning it would make them interested. I have made sure that the
model is dressed differently on each pag. I have kept the outfits simplistic and effective
with no sudden bursts of colour which could throw people off.
3. FACIAL EXPRESSIONS
I did research on Millum and Ferguson to receive a greater understanding of the
different possible facial expressions when it came to the photoshoots. I also looked at
different pop genre magazines to see how their models posed to give me inspiration. I
also had to think about how I wanted my artist to come across as and how she could
appeal to the audience. In order to get it right, I made sure to take plenty of shots so I
could practice and then had many to choose from if there was some I wasn’t keen on.
I decided to use a type of relaxed facial expression with a slight smile which intrigues
the audience and makes her come across as friendly. I also had the model look away
from the camera on each page. I believe this is effective as it creates mystery and
makes the audience curious as to what she is looking at. It also suggests she has
something to hide which makes them want to read on and find out more about her.
4. MAKE UP
I asked my model to come in with very simple make up, This is because, after looking at
many different pop music magazines I discovered that the artist’s make up is very subtle
and not too bright. This means that it isn’t too distracting from the rest of the colour. It
also allows the female audience members to be inspired by the make up and be able to
relate to them as it isn’t too extreme or over the top. There is simply eye liner, mascara
and lipstick used to create a subtle yet beautiful effect which will inspire audience
members. It’ll mean that female members will want to be her and male members may
find her attractive which could influence them to also buy it.
