3. Layout
◦ This double page spread TV listings is set out in six columns which
adheres to codes and conventions and looks aesthetically pleasing
and easy for the audience to read and follow. This TV listings has the
name of the documentary at the top centre of the page which is in
the Channel 4 font for the brand identity and continuity. To further
adhere to conventions of TV Listings magazine I added the page
number at the bottom of each page. Next to this is the masthead
from the front cover of the magazine for continuity purposes
adhering to another usual conventions in TV Listings magazines.
4. Image
◦ I have used one large image to fill the whole background of houses in
Leigh, this is to portray the prominent aspect of my documentary in
the ancillary products. This image is taken as a wide shot to allow a
full landscape of houses to be photographed and is aesthetically
pleasing.
5. Typography
◦ The font in this TV Listings is the same as in the documentary and
advert. This is for continuity and is in Chadwick which is Channel 4’s
typical font adhering to their brand identity. This is in black which is
easy to read against the background and the size of each bit
portrays the importance of that piece of information.
6. Sub title
◦ I have also added a sub title under the title and a logo to the left for
the double page spread to be recognisable and so its easy for
audiences to find the documentary. The sub title states the topic of
the documentary and what is being investigated and this is in a
white font with a black outline which makes the writing stand out
more clearly.
7. Smaller images
◦ I have added smaller images of the content of the documentary
around the outside with captions in white. These images are of shots
in the documentary illustrating to the reader what some of the
documentary looks like and I have adhered to the convention for TV
Listings by adding these. The images are all aesthetically pleasing
and have a white border around the outside to help them stand out
against the background image.
8. Content
◦ The content of the writing on my TV listings is an article writing about the
documentary, stating what it entails and it sparks the interest within the
reader to go and watch the documentary. These are set out in columns
making it easier to read and adhere to the conventions of the layout for
TV listings. I also included an added a Q&A with the presenter which
allows audiences to find out extra information to satisfy their needs.
9. Content
◦ I added white boxes on top of the image and behind the writing to
make the content easier to read. I decreased the opacity of these
boxes so that the reader can still see the background information
through it. I have also adhered to the conventions of magazines by
adding a pull quote. This is designed to grab the readers attention
with a particularly interesting quote.
10. Colour scheme
◦ The colour scheme in this TV Listings is white, black and yellow this is
used across all of the London to Leigh products, creating the house
style. This helps the products be instantly recognisable and allows
continuity for the audience. These colours stand out against each
other whilst connoting positivity and looking professional.
11. Yellow box
◦ The use of a coloured box is a typical convention used in TV Listing
magazines and adhering to this makes the page easy to read to
audiences. The content in this box shows other upcoming
programmes in the same week. This makes the double page spread
more interesting with extra information and images.
