2. This is an over the shoulder
screen shot where Sarah is
talking to her daughter and the
camera focuses on those two
characters and how they are.
This is a point of view scene where the
camera is in the Jessica’s point of view where
she sees her mom. This scene shows the
family are safe they are talking about the
daughters birthday.
This shot moves away from the last scene
and cuts out the characters getting into
the car and all the other things like
packaging away it just goes straight into
them being in the car and on their way
home.
3. This is a two person shot almost in the point
of the child where we can see the van in a
distance coming towards them and this
signifies that something is going on and that
the van is significant in what's happening
next. It also shows how Jessica sees her
parents the fact that the conversation isn't
really a happy one.
This is a shot where we see Paul and we can see his
facial expression and from this cut we can see that
something is going on. It is a mid shot emphasizing the
relationship between the mother and daughter where as
Paul is rather outside of that.
4. This is a close up cut where we move to the
outside of the car and here we can see the
impact of the crash and see what's
happening with the two cars and how
quickly they collide into each other.
This is a close up where we can see the van and we know
that they are going to crash however there isn't any
attention paid towards it as its really quick and the
characters don’t know what's happening. This is a quick
editing pace where it allows us to see several points of the
crash and once again emphasizes how quick the crash is.
5. This quick cut shows the poles and
we can see through CGI that the
poles aren't actually going through
Paul and we can also see blood in the
back of the drivers seat but were is
the other side of the pole.
This cut is where CGI (computer
generated image) is used as we can
not see the other end of the pole in
the glass plus the pole above
doesn’t have a shadow and finally
you cannot see Paul in the drivers
seat.
6. This crane shot shows the crash
and nothing is done in the end
no ambulances are there its just
the two cars and allows the
audience to focus on the crash
and really highlight how bad it
was.
This is a prosthetic shot showing the
pole going through Paul's head however
there was props used – seat full of blood
like ingredients so we the pole goes
through it the seat bursts making it look
like its gone through Paul's head when it
has not.
7. Through out this scene there is a lot of editing to show the car crash and it is
able to fill the details and allow quick editing shots to emphasize how quick
the car crash is. There are several editing cuts enabling the audience to see all
aspects of the crash and not just in the point of the characters but the outside
the cars where they both collide. Some of the shots however show some CGI
images where the scene has been edited to make things look realistic to cover
this, the scene is rather fast however so it isn't as noticeable when watching it
the first time.
