1. Tier Instructional Strategies Instructional Activities
Tier 1
(Primary):This includes
general classroom strategies
that would be implemented
for all students in the class
Give direct instruction:
Use hands-on,non-
linguistic representations
Use grouping
Provide feedback
State the objective
Restate the objective and
reinforce the lesson.
Ask students to verbally tell the moral of
each 2 fables they read independently
Students recreate ending to fables.
Student in pairs illustrate what they read.
Tier 2
(Secondary):This includes
classroom interventions and
instructional strategies that
are more individually
designed - they are typically
implemented in
small groups
Direct instruction,which
breaks information into
shortersegments or steps
and targets learning to
simplify instruction. Slower
and time is spent showing
students a knowledge or
skill, as well as practicing it,
to build a firm foundation.
Opportunities to practice
what they have learned.
Topic or skill that is being
taught will not be combined
with other topics or skills.
As student tells the moral of each fable
students will write it down on chart paper.
Student will play matching game, by
matching each fable with moral of story.
Student will pick their favorite story and
illustrate and write about it.
Tier 3
(Tertiary):This includes
classroom interventions and
instructional strategies
Instruction is very
individualized according to
learning styles,and may be
specific for each student.
Students are taught in very
small groups or one on one,
where they can talk through
their thought processes
when they learn, solve
problems or read for
comprehension.
Provides more explicit and
systematic instruction,helps
students work on memory
skills, teaches themto ask
and answer questions about
what they are learning and
provides them with many
opportunities to give
feedback.
Students will get 5 minutes to look over
different fables.
Student will pick 1 fable they are comfortable
with reading.
Student as they read will talk with teacherto
write down key points on sticky notes.
Student will take those sticky notes to write
down the moral of the fable in their journals
Student will illustrate picture to match.
