Involves recommending, administering, and coordinating, Human Resources policies, labor contracts, statutes, programs and procedures covering several of the following: recruitment, compensation, employee relations, labor relations, payroll, benefits, training and development, visa procurement, inter-campus transfers, and employee services.

The Campus Shared Services Center (CSS) supports the administration of Business and Finance
Services, Information Services Technology, and Human Resources for the UC Berkeley campus.
CSS is committed to developing a culture in which employees are actively engaged in the work,

The Campus Shared Services (CSS) implementation project is part of UC Berkeley’s
Operational Excellence effort, a multi-year, multi-project effort to make the operations of UC
Berkeley more efficient so that the University may direct more resources away from
administrative expenses and toward teaching and research. (oe.berkeley.edu).

Responsibilities
• Supervises a staff of HR/AP Generalists who are responsible for managing relationships
and
coordinating HR service delivery to assigned client groups. Ensures that CSS HR internal
communications are conducted in order to manage client requests to resolution.
• Partners with key department/unit contacts and tracks service nuances, policies and
procedures to support development of unit-specific profiles/knowledge base materials.
• Assists assigned resources with work schedules and assignment of appropriate tasks
including
delegation of client requests from the queue.
3. • Supports implementation of methodologies to improve service levels, manage client
perceptions, and build strong client relationships with client teams.
• Works closely with direct manager and assigned staff.
• Trains and instructs staff to perform assigned tasks.
• Responsible for creating a work environment that is inclusive.
Required Qualifications
• 5 - 7 years of experience as an HR Business Partner with demonstrated ability in
supervising/managing teams of HR professionals. Experience in managing teams
remotely – a plus.
• Expertise in coaching managers and staff on the range of HR issues. Ability to translate
policy related questions into client-focused, action-based solutions.
• Experience building cohesive, effective teams.
• Maintains an understanding of the unit goals and how this position supports those
goals. Makes decisions regarding work assignments and scheduling of subordinates.
• Demonstrated team-building experience and ability to handle difficult or volatile
situations/individuals effectively.
• Extensive working knowledge of personnel policies and applicable laws and regulations
governing the employment relationship.
• Working knowledge of campus information systems related to HR/AP, e.g. HCM, TAM,
payroll, HR BAIRS, AP Recruit/AP Search, etc.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively
with a broad range of audiences using a diversity of communication styles.
Strong customer service orientation and skills.
Education/Training:
• Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Preferred Qualifications:
HR experience at UC Berkeley or other UC location
Knowledge of UC union contracts.
